Describe the Organization's Program Activity:

Part 3 - Line 4a

PROVIDE WAYS FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES TO INCREASE PUBLIC AWARENESS AS TO THE RIGHTS AFFORDED TO DISABLED PERSONS. ALMOST ALL OF OUR FUNDS AND A SUBSTANTIAL AMOUNT OF TIME IS SPENT IN OUTREACH TRAINING, EDUCATION AND IMPLEMENTATION OF DISABILITY RIGHTS AND SERVICE LAWS AND PROGRAMS FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES OF ALL AGES. WE ALSO HONOR AND ENHANCE THE SUPREME COURT DECISION (OLMSTEAD) WHICH INCLUDES THE WORDS "SERVED IN THE LEAST RESTRICTIVE ENVIRONMENT". NURSING HOMES ARE NOT THE LEAST RESTRICTIVE ENVIRONMENT FOR MANY PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES WHO CURRENTLY ARE IN THAT ENVIRONMENT.

PROVIDING EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES REGARDING COMMUNITY BASED SERVICES SO PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES CAN LIVE INDEPENDENTLY. WE PROVIDE EDUCATION THROUGH PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES WHO SHARE THEIR REAL STORIES AS WELL AS OLDER AMERICANS WHO ALSO ARE SUBJECT TO MUCH DISCRIMINATION. THESE LIFE STORIES SHOW HOW INDIVIDUALS CAN CONFRONT THE BARRIERS AND DISCRIMINATION THAT EXISTS IN ALL COMMUNITIES THROUGHOUT THE UNITED STATES. ADAPT PARTICIPANTS WILL EDUCATE POLICY MAKERS ON THE NEED FOR REFORMATION OF FEDERAL AND STATE POLICIES AND FUNDING. THE GOAL OF THESE EFFORTS WILL BE TO INCREASE THE ABILITY OF PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES AND OLDER AMERICANS TO INTEGRATE AS EQUALS IN ALL COMMUNITIES THROUGHOUT THE UNITED STATES.

PROVIDE TRAINING AND EDUCATION FOR DISABLED PERSONS REGARDING THEIR RIGHTS AS CITIZENS OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. AS CITIZENS OF THE UNITED STATES, WE USE NON-VIOLENT DEMONSTRATION TRAINING AS ONE VEHICLE TO INCREASE KNOWLEDGE OF EACH INDIVIDUAL TO BECOME AWARE OF EACH INDIVIDUAL'S RIGHT TO FULL CITIZENSHIP INCLUDING ACCESS TO AVAILABLE, ACCESSIBLE INTEGRATED HOUSING, THE AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT GUARANTEEING ACCESS TO TRANSPORTATION, PUBLIC AND PRIVATE BUILDINGS AND OTHER AREAS ENJOYED BY THE NON-DISABLED POPULATION AND THE SUPREME COURT DECISION THAT CLEARLY STATES FOLKS SHOULD LIVE IN THE COMMUNITY IF AT ALL POSSIBLE.
