Part 3
THE DOULA PROJECT IS A VOLUNTEER-RUN, COLLECTIVELY LED ORGANIZATION OF OVER FIFTY FULL-SPECTRUM DOULAS. OUR DOULAS HAVE BACKGROUNDS AS SOCIAL JUSTICE ACTIVISTS, TEACHERS, CHILDBIRTH EDUCATORS, BIRTH DOULAS, SOCIAL WORKERS, AND REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH PROFESSIONALS. WE PARTNER WITH PLANNED PARENTHOOD NEW YORK, SEVERAL PUBLIC HOSPITALS, AND OTHER SERVICE PROVIDERS TO PROVIDE FULL-SPECTRUM DOULA SUPPORT TO A DIVERSE BODY OF CLIENTS. IN LIGHT OF THE PANDEMIC, MANY OF OUR PARTNER ORGANIZATIONS WOULD NOT ALLOW OUR DOULAS TO PROVIDE IN PERSON SERVICES. IN 2022, THE DOULA PROJECT DID NOT PROVIDE IN PERSON DOULA SUPPORT TO ABORTION CLIENTS, BUT WORKED ON AND LAUNCHED A VIRTUAL SUPPORT PROGRAM AND DOULA TRAINING FOR MEDICATION ABORTION. WE PROVIDED HOTLINE SUPPORT TO CLIENTS THROUGHOUT NEW YORK STATE. WE ALSO WORKED ON GOVERNANCE ISSUES AND IMPROVEMENTS TO ORGANIZATIONAL CULTURE.
