TO HELP PROVIDE FUNDING FOR, AND TO FACILIATE THE CONSTRUCTION OF, A SWIMMING POOL FOR THE USE OF ASHEVILLE CITY SCHOOLS, A PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM.

IN 2015, THE POOL COMMITTEE TOOK A MAJOR STEP FORWARD TOWARDS ATTAINING ITS MISSION. IT ENTERED INTO DISCUSSION WITH THE ASHEVILLE JEWISH COMMUNITY CENTER (JCC), A 501(C)(3) ORGANIZATION AND ASHEVILLE CITY SCHOOLS ABOUT CONSTRUCTING A SWIMMING POOL ON THE JCC CAMPUS THAT WOULD BE AVAILABLE TO ASHEVILLE HIGH SCHOOL SWIMMING AND DIVING TEAMS. THE POOL COMMITTEE WOULD GRANT ITS FUNDS OF APPROXIMATELY $750,000 TO THE PROJECT FOR A RETRACTABLE ROOF ENCLOSURE THAT WOULD ENABLE USE OF THE FACILITY YEAR-ROUND. (THE THREE PARTIES SUBSEQUENTLY ENTERED INTO A FORMAL AGREEMENT IN JULY 2016. CONSTRUCTION IS EXPECTED TO START IN LATE 2016 AND BE COMPLETED IN 2017).
