Part 3

FOOTLOOSE MONTANA IS A GRASSROOTS ORGANIZATION DEDICATED TO PROTECTING ALL WILDLIFE INCLUDING PREDATOR SPECIES IN MONTANA. WE FIGHT TO END THE NIGHTMARE OF TRAPPING AND OTHER ASSAULTS ON WILDLIFE BY RAISING PUBLIC AWARENESS THROUGH SCIENCE-BASED EDUCATION AND BOLD ADVOCACY.WE TESTIFIED AT EVERY LEGISLATIVE HEARING ON BILLS AFFECTING TRAPPING, WOLF TRAPPING AND EXPANDED HUNTING OF WOLVES AND BEARS. WE ALSO TESTIFIED AT THE FISH AND WILDLIFE COMMISSION MEETINGS ON THESE ISSUES. FOOTLOOSE MONTANA PRESENTS TRAP-RELEASE WORKSHOPS STATEWIDE TO EDUCATE PEOPLE HOW TO AVOID TRAPS, TRAPPING REGULATIONS, FIRST AID, HOW TO RELEASE A PET FROM A TRAP, AND WHAT TO CARRY WHILE RECREATING ON MONTANA'S PUBLIC LANDS. FOOTLOOSE MONTANA ALSO EDUCATES THE PUBLIC THROUGH TV AND RADIO CAMPAIGNS, BILLBOARDS, FULL-PAGE NEWSPAPER ADS, AND EDITORIALS IN MONTANA NEWSPAPERS, THE HILL AND COUNTERPUNCH. WE ARE WORKING WITH OTHER WILDLIFE CONSERVATION GROUPS, SENDING PETITIONS AND REQUESTS TO FEDERAL GOVERNMENT AGENCIES AS WELL AS MONTANAS FISH AND WILDLIFE COMMISSION, FISH, WILDLIFE AND PARKS, AND GOVERNOR GIANFORTE TO RELIST WOLVES AND STOP THE SLAUGHTER. WE INITIATED A REQUEST SIGNED BY 34 ORGANIZATIONS TO CREATE A 5-MILE BUFFER AROUND YELLOWSTONE AND GRAND TETON NATL PARKS EXCLUDING WOLF HUNTING AND TRAPPING. THIS WAS SENT TO TOM VILSACK, SEC. OF AGRICULTURE, AND CCD TO SEC. OF INTERIOR, DIRECTOR OF NATIONAL PARKS, SUPERINTENDENTS OF YELLOWSTONE AND GRAND TETON NATL PARKS AND THE FIVE SUPERVISORS OF NATIONAL FORESTS SURROUNDING THE PARKS.WE WORK TO END THE TORTURE THAT INDISCRIMINATE TRAPPING AND SNARING CAUSES TO MONTANAS WILDLIFE. WILDLIFE FACES PERILOUS CHALLENGES FROM GLOBAL WARMING AND HABITAT DESTRUCTION AT AN ACCELERATING PACE. WE ARE IN THE ERA OF THE SIXTH MASS EXTINCTION. TRAPS AND SNARES HAVE NO PLACE IN TODAYS WORLD. THE NEED TO EDUCATE THE PUBLIC ABOUT THE DESTRUCTION TO WILDLIFE, LANDS AND WATERS FROM TRAPS AND SNARES IS MORE URGENT THAN EVER. IT IS TIME TO PRESERVE THE ANIMALS, AND TO ALLOW PEOPLE THEIR RIGHT TO ENJOY PUBLIC LANDS WITH PEACE OF MIND. RECREATIONAL TRAPPING MUST END.
