Part 3 - Line 4a
ACADEMIC:EPATT CREATED, STAFFED AND OPERATED MULTIPLE LEARNING HUBS FOR STUENTS AND FAMILIES IN THE LOCAL COMMUNITY. WE HIRED 18 TEMPORARY STAFF MEMBERS TO PROVIDE TECHNICAL AND ACADEMIC SUPPORT TO OVER 100 K-12 STUENTS WHO ATTENDED EPATT'S IN-PERSON LEARNING PODS. WE CREATED A NEW ONLINE CURRICULUM FEATURING 20 ONLINE CLASSES FOR K-12 STUDENTS. WE ARRANGED FOR ZOOM-BASED ONE-ON-ONE AND GROUP TUTORING, MATCHING STANFORED STUDENT VOLUNTEERS AND EPATT STAFF WITH K-12 STUDENTS WHO REQUESTED ADDITIONAL ACADEMIC SUPPORT.79 VOLUNTEER TUTORS AND MORE THAN 200 STUDENTS PARTICIPATED IN OUR ACADEMIC PROGRAMS DURING THE YEAR.
TENNIS:EPATT STRIVES TO BE THE GOLD STANDARD IN ACADEMIC/SPORTS YOUTH DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS. TENNIS, FORTUNATELY, IS ONE OF THE FEW SOCIALLY DISTANCED SPORTS THAT WAS DEEMED SAFE FOR STUDENTS TO PLAY IN PERSON. WE INVESTED IN PPE, SANITIZING EQUIPMENT, BALL HOPPERS, PROVIDED PERSONAL RACQUETS TO STUDENTS, AND INCREASED THE NUMBER OF HOURS WE OFFERED FOR TENNIS INSTRUCTION. STUDENTS LEARNED A NEW SKILL, ACHIEVED GREATER FITNESS AND REDUCED THEIR SCREEN TIME. WE OBSERVED FIRST HAND THE VALUE OF SOCIAL INTERACTION FOR KIDS AND THE DELETERIOUS EFFECTS ISOLATION CAN HAVE ON THEIR SOCIAL EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT. TENNIS WAS UNANIMOUSLY THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE SCHOOL DAY FOR OUR STUDENTS. WE ALSO INVESTED A LARGER PORTION OF EXPENSES TOWARDS SUPPORTING EPATT'S TRAVELING TOURNAMENT TEAM.OVER 200 STUDENTS PLAYED TENNIS AS PART OF OUR PROGRAM. THERE IS A SIGNIFICANT OVERLAP BETWEEN PARTICIPANTS IN TENNIS AND ACADEMICS.
ENRICHMENT/PARENT:AN INCREASINGLY IMPORTANT GOAL HAS BEEN TO CHANGE STUDENTS' REFERENCE POINTS IN LIFE. EPATT STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES- OFTEN A FIRST TIME LIFE EXPERIENCE - SUCH AS CAMPING TRIPS, RIVER RAFTING, COLLEGE TOURS, AND COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECTS. THIS FISCAL YEAR, THOSE ACTIVITIES HAD TO BE SCALED BACK BECAUSE OF COVID. HIKES AND OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES SUCH AS GARDENING PLAYED A LARGER PART IN OUR PROGRAMS. PARENTS ARE THE CORNER STONE OF EPATT PROGRAMMING. EPATT DISTINGUISHES ITSELF FROM OTHER AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAMS THROUGH ITS EMPHASIS ON PARENT EMPOWERMENT. EPATT'S GOAL IS TO HELP PARENTS BECOME MORE ACTIVE IN THEIR CHILD'S ACADEMIC LIFE AND ENCOURAGE MORE READING AT HOME.AS PART OF OUR RESPONSE TO COVID-19, WE CREATED ONLINE WORKSHOPS TO SUPPORT PARENTS. THE OVERWHELMING MAJORITY OF THE PARENTS REPORT THAT HAVING EPATT AS A SAFTY NET REDUCES THEIR STRESS LEVEL. A SIMILARLY LARGE PERCENT OF PARENTS AGREE THAT EPATT HELPED THEIR CHILD BE BETTER PREPARED FOR DISTANCE LEARNING. ABOUT 20 PARENTS REGULARLY PARTICIPATED IN OUR PARENT/ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES.
