TO PROVIDE AN ALTERNATIVE TO PRIVATE CAR OWNERSHIP THROUGH MEMBERSHIP AND HOURLY RENTAL OF ENERGY EFFICIENT CARS AND PICKUP TRUCKS.

GREEN MOUNTAIN CARSHARE (DBA CARSHARE VERMONT) WORKS TO REDUCE VEHICLE DEPENDENCE AND IMPROVE MOBILITY FOR VERMONTERS BY PROVIDING AN AFFORDABLE AND CONVENIENT CARSHARING SERVICE. IT ALSO IMPLEMENTS A RANGE OF COMMUNITY OUTREACH CAMPAIGNS AND PROGRAMS AIMED AT INCREASING AWARENESS ABOUT THE ENVIRONMENTAL, FINANCIAL, AND SOCIAL COSTS OF VEHICLE DEPENDENCE AND INCREASING ACCESS TO CARSHARING. CARSHARING IS A NEIGHBORHOOD-BASED, SHORT-TERM SHARED MOBILITY SERVICE THAT MAKES A NETWORK OF VEHICLES AVAILABLE TO A GROUP OF USERS BY THE HOUR OR DAY. ANYONE IS ELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE SERVICE WHO IS AT LEAST 18 YEARS OLD, HAS HAD TWO YEARS OF DRIVING EXPERIENCE, AND POSSESSES A CLEAN DRIVING RECORD. ** IN 2021, NEARLY 1,000 RESIDENTS SHARED A FLEET OF 21 VEHICLES LOCATED THROUGHOUT BURLINGTON. SINCE ITS LAUNCH IN 2008, CARSHARE VERMONT MEMBERS HAVE HELPED REMOVE 315 VEHICLES FROM THE ROAD AND REDUCED THEIR VEHICLE MILES TRAVELED BY OVER 25 MILLION MILES, SAVING THOUSANDS OF TONS OF CARBON EMISSIONS FROM ENTERING THE ATMOSPHERE.
