BINAYTARA FOUNDATION CANCER CENTER IN NEPAL: THE BINAYTARA FOUNDATION CANCER CENTER (BTFCC), LOCATED IN JANAKPURDHAM, NEPAL, PROVIDES CANCER PREVENTION, EARLY DETECTION, CANCER TREATMENT, AND PALLIATIVE CARE SERVICES AT ITS 25-BED HOSPITAL. JANAKPURDHAM IS A CITY IN NEPAL'S PROVINCE THE PROVINCE IS THE MOST POPULOUS OF ALL 7 PROVINCES IN NEPAL; HOWEVER, IT DIDN'T HAVE ANY CANCER CENTER UNTIL THE BTFCC OPENED ITS DOOR IN THE FIRST WEEK OF DECEMBER 2018. AS THE FIRST AND ONLY CANCER CENTER IN THIS REGION, THE BTFCC IS EXPECTED TO SERVE NEARLY 20,000 PATIENTS ANNUALLY FROM SOUTHEAST NEPAL AS WELL AS FROM NEARBY INDIAN STATE OF BIHAR. THE BINAYTARA FOUNDATION CANCER CENTER IS STAFFED BY HIGHLY QUALIFIED PHYSICIANS, NURSES, AND OTHER STAFF WHO ARE SUPPORTED BY EXPERTS IN THE USA VIA WEEKLY TUMOR BOARDS AND VIDEO-CONFERENCING TO HELP MANAGE PATIENT HEALTH ISSUES UTILIZING THE LATEST EVIDENCE.
CONTINUING EDUCATION FOR HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS: THE BINAYTARA FOUNDATION ORGANIZES SOME OF THE LARGEST CANCER CONFERENCES IN THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST WITH THE GOAL OF IMPROVING THE CARE OF CANCER PATIENTS BY EDUCATING HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS. AS COVID-19 PANDEMIC HIT AND OUR IN-PERSON EDUCATION ACTIVITIES GOT CANCELLED, WE CONTINUED OUR EDUCATIONAL EFFORTS VIRTUALLY. THROUGH OUR PARTNERSHIP WITH ACCREDITED PROVIDERS AND CANCER EXPERTS, WE PROVIDED OVER 60 HOURS OF ACCREDITED AND NON-ACCREDITED EDUCATION TO NEARLY 500 HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS IN THE UNITED STATES AND OTHER PARTS OF THE WORLD DURING THIS FISCAL YEAR. THE BINAYTARA FOUNDATION IS ACCREDITED BY THE CALIFORNIA BOARD OF REGISTERED NURSING TO PROVIDE CONTINUING EDUCATION FOR NURSES. WE RECENTLY RECEIVED CCREDITATION FROM THE WASHINGTON STATE MEDICAL ASSOCIATION TO PROVIDE CONTINUING EDUCATION FOR PHYSICIANS.
PROJECT ACCESS: THE PROJECT FOCUSES ON IDENTIFYING THE EDUCATIONAL NEEDS OF CANCER PATIENTS AND DEVELOPING EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS TO SUIT THEIR HEALTH EDUCATION NEEDS TO IMPROVE THEIR QUALITY OF LIFE AND ENCOURAGE THEIR ACTIVE PARTICIPATION IN HEALTHCARE DECISION MAKING.
