GENERAL THE SOCIETY IS THE VOICE AND FACE OF PENNSYLVANIA RHEUMATOLOGISTS, RECOGNIZED AS THE SOURCE OF EXPERT OPINION FOR INSURANCE COMPANIES AND OUR STATE GOVERNMENT REGARDING HEALTH POLICIES FOR PATIENTS WITH RHEUMATIC DISEASE.
EDUCATION THE SOCIETY HOLDS AN ANNUAL SCIENTIFIC MEETING WHERE MEMBERS AND NON-MEMBER ATTENDEES QUALIFY FOR CONTINUING MEDICAL EDUCATION CREDITS. ATTENDANCE IS OVER 100 RHEUMATOLOGISTS AND RHEUMATOLOGY FELLOWS. THE SOCIETY WEBSITE ALSO CONTAINS PATIENT EDUCATIONAL INFORMATION THAT CAN BE ACCESSED BY PATIENTS OR SHARED WITH PATIENTS. RHEUMATOLOGY TRAINEES ARE OFFERED SEVERAL DIFFERENT OPPORTUNITIES TO DISPLAY RESEARCH AND COMPETE IN EDUCATIONAL EVENTS WITH OTHER PENNSYLVANIA TRAINEES. A QUARTERLY E-NEWSLETTER ALSO CONTAINS INFORMATION OF VALUE TO OUR MEMBERS.
REPRESENTATION THE SOCIETY REPRESENTS THE INTEREST OF ITS MEMBERS AND THEIR PATIENTS THROUGH REPRESENTATION IN THE STATE MEDICAL SOCIETYS SPECIALTY LEADERSHIP CABINET AND HOUSE OF DELEGATES AS WELL AS MEDICARES CARRIER ADVISORY COMMITTEE. THE SOCIETY IS ALSO REPRESENTED AT THE NATIONAL LEVEL THROUGH THE AMERICAN COLLEGE OF RHEUMATOLOGY AFFILIATE SOCIETY COUNCIL.
