PROGRAMS FOR YOUTH CHILDREN AGES 3-18 DURING AFTER SCHOOL AND SUMMER HOURS FOR THE SCHENLEY HEIGHTS AND PITTSBURGH COMMUNITY.

THE AFTER-SCHOOL TUTORIAL AND ENRICHMENT PROGRAM (A-STEP) - A-STEP WAS ESTABLISHED TO PROVIDE QUALITY EXPERIENCES DURING THE NON-SCHOOL HOURS FOR SCHOOL AGE CHILDREN, KINDERGARTEN THROUGH GRADE EIGHT. THE INEXPENSIVE SERVICES PROVIDE A RANGE OF ACTIVITIES INCLUDING EDUCATIONAL AND SOCIAL ENRICHMENT MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY 2:00 P.M. UNTIL 6:00 P.M. STAFF MEMBERS INCLUDE CERTIFIED TEACHERS, RETIRED TEACHERS, ADULT TUTORS, COLLEGE STUDENTS, AND HIGH SCHOOL TUTORS. TRANSPORTATION TO AND FROM THE SITE IS PROVIDED FOR STUDENTS IN THE HILL DISTRICT SECTION OF PITTSBURGH AND STUDENTS ARE PROVIDED WITH SNACKS UPON ARRIVAL. A-STEP HAS A WORKING RELATIONSHIP WITH THE SCHOOLS IN THE HILL DISTRICT AND IS DEDICATED TO PROVIDING FAMILIES WITH MEANINGFUL, AFFORDABLE CHILDCARE IN AN EFFORT TO KEEP CHILDREN FROM PARTICIPATING IN THE DESTRUCTIVE BEHAVIORS THAT CAN TEMPT THEM WHEN SUPERVISION IS MISSING OR MINIMAL.


THE SUMMER ENRICHMENT PROGRAM -THE SUMMER ENRICHMENT PROGRAM COMPLEMENTS THE A-STEP PROGRAM AND IS DESIGNED TO PROVIDE ENRICHING, SAFE LEARNING EXPERIENCES FOR YOUTHS FROM VARIOUS NEIGHBORHOODS OF PITTSBURGH. PARTICIPANTS ARE INVOLVED IN A MYRIAD OF ACTIVITIES INCLUDING ACADEMIC CLASSES, SERVICE PROJECTS, BUSINESS VENTURES, CULTURAL ACTIVITIES, AND FIELD TRIPS THAT PROMOTE LEARNING AND POSITIVE INTERACTION WITH PEERS DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS.
