TO EXPAND PUBLIC APPRECIATION OF RAILROADS AND THEIR HISTORY THROUGH PRESERVATION AND EDUCATION.

RAILCAR MAINTENANCE AND PRESERVATION. INCLUDING MAINTAINING 1 TO AMTRAK SPECIFICATIONS. APPROXIMATE NUMBER OF DIRECT PARTICIPANTS: 20. HEAVILY FOCUS ON IN 2024 ON REPLACING THE HVAC SYSTEM OF DOVER HARBOR, REPAIRING DRAFT GEAR, STRUCTTURAL REPAIRS, COT&S.. WE USE VOLUNTEERS AS MUCH AS WE CAN. MUCH OF THE WORK IN FISCAL 2024 HAD TO BE OUTSOURCED TO A RAILCAR REPAIR SHOP.


HISTORIC RAILROAD AND RAILCAR TRIPS, TOURS, AND EXCURSIONS OPERATION. WE OPERATED A SINGLE CHARTER TO PITTSBURGH. WE ALSO OPERATED TWO PUBLIC TRIPS BETWEEN NEW YORK AND BOSTON AND ALBANY, AND WASHINGTON, D.C. WE ALSO OPERATED TWO LOCAL WALKING TOURS OF THE IVY CITY AREA IN DC.


EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS, INCLUDING MEMBER AND PUBLIC MEETINGS (ON-LINE) ON TOPICS OF RAILWAY HISTORY AND RAILWAY PRESERVATION, MONTHLY NEWSLETTER PUBLICATION, AND LIBRARY OPERATION. APPROXIMATE NUMBER OF DIRECT PARTICIPANTS: 240 (ON-LINE PROGRAMS) + NEWSLETTER READERSHIP OF 425 PER MONTH (ON-LINE MONTHLY PROGRAMS). TRAIN DAY WAS HELD AT THE LIBRARY THE SUNDAY AFTER THANKSGIVING AND ABOUT 20 PARTICIPANTS CAME AND CHECKED OUT THE LIBRARY AND WATCHED THE AMTRAK TRAINS ROLL BY ON THE BUSIEST DAY OF THE YEAR ON THE NORTHEAST CORRIDOR. PARTICIPATED IN THE OLD BOWIE FESTIVAL DAY (10/7/23), AND WE HAD A TWO-DAY OPEN HOUSE TO THE PUBLIC ON 8/12 - 8/13/23
