THE SOUTH SUBURBAN HUMANE SOCIETY PROMOTES THE WELL BEING OF ANIMALS THROUGH CARE, SHELTERING, EDUCATING THE PUBLIC, PROVIDING ADOPTION PLACEMENT SERVICES AND LOW COST SPAY, NEUTER AND VACCINE SERVICES TO THE PUBLIC FOR THEIR PETS.

LOW COST SPAY/NEUTER CLINIC THE LOW-COST SPAY/NEUTER CLINIC PERFORMED 5,668 SPAY/NEUTER SURGERIES PREVENTING AN ESTIMATED 25,000 UNWANTED PETS ENTERING AREA SHELTERS. THROUGH LOW-COST VACCINES AND PREVENTATIVES AT THE TIME OF SURGERY, THOUSANDS OF AREA RESIDENTS RECEIVED LIFE-SAVING TREATMENTS.


ANIMAL RESCUE, ADOPTION, AND PLACEMENT SERVICES SSHS PLACED 3,172 PETS, TRANSFERRED 631 PETS TO RESCUE ORGANIZATIONS OR RETURNED STRAYS TO THEIR OWNERS FOR A TOTAL LIFE SAVING PERCENTAGE OF 96%. PET RETENTION SERVICES SSHS PLACES A SPECIAL EMPHASIS UPON HELPING PEOPLE KEEP THEIR PETS. MORE THAN 1,200 PETS WERE SERVED AT OUR PET FOOD BANK IN 2021. VETERINARY NEEDS ARE REFERRED TO THE SOUTH SUBURBAN LOW COST VETERINARY SERVICES CLINIC WHICH SAW OVER 10,000 CLIENTS IN 2021.


RESALE SHOP ITEMS AND SHELTER/ANIMAL CARE MERCHANDISE JUST AS PETS ARE GIVEN A SECOND CHANCE, DONORS GENTLY USED ITEMS ARE GIVEN A SECOND CHANCE AT OUR RESALE SHOP ALL TO BENEFIT HOMELESS PETS. SSHS ALSO OFFERS LOW COST CRATES, PREVENTATIVES, LEASHES, COLLARS, TAGS, ETC. TO HELP NEW PET PARENTS GET ALL THEY NEED FOR THEIR NEW BEST FRIEND.


PET RETENTION SERVICES - SSHS PLACES A SPECIAL EMPHASIS UPON HELPING PEOPLE KEEP THEIR PETS. MORETHAN 900 PETS WERE SERVED AT OUR PET FOOD BANK IN 2020. VETERINARY NEEDS ARE REFERRD TO THE SOUTH SUBURBAN LOW COST VETERINARY SERVICES CLINIC WHICH SAW OVER 9,000 CLIENTS IN 2020.
