THE INTERNATIONAL ATHEROSCLEROSIS SOCIETY (THE SOCIETY) WAS ESTABLISHED ON NOVEMBER 29, 1978 TO PROMOTE THE SCIENTIFIC UNDERSTANDING OF THE ETIOLOGY, PREVENTION, AND TREATMENT OF ATHEROSCLEROSIS. THE IAS EXISTS TO COORDINATE GLOBALLY THE EXCHANGE OF SCIENTIFIC INFORMATION AMONG THE IAS CONSTITUENT SOCIETIES AND THE MEDICAL WORLD AT LARGE, TO FOSTER RESEARCH AND EDUCATION ON CARDIO-CEREBRO-METABOLIC AND THROMBOSIS RISK FACTORS INTO THE DEVELOPMENT OF ATHEROSCLEROSIS, AND TO HELP TRANSLATE THIS KNOWLEDGE INTO IMPROVING CLINICAL PRACTICE AND THE EFFECTIVENESS OF PROGRAMS DESIGNED TO PREVENT AND TREAT THIS DISEASE AMONG THE MEDICAL COMMUNITY AT LARGE.

DEVELOPMENT AND IMPLEMENTATION OF EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS FOR RESEARCHERS AND CLINICIANS MADE AVAILABLE AND DELIVERED THROUGH MEETINGS BOTH LIVE AND ONLINE (E.G.: CONGRESSES, MASTERCLASSES, WEBINARS), NEWSLETTERS, EBLASTS, PUBLICATIONS, WEBSITES, DIRECT CORRESPONDENCE WITH THE MEMBER SOCIETIES, AND COORDINATION OF EXPERT PANELS AT INTERNATIONAL LEVEL.


FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM FOR VISITING SCIENTISTS UP TO 40 YEARS MADE AVAILABLE THROUGH INTERNATIONAL MEETINGS, NEWSLETTERS, AD-HOC EBLASTS, PUBLICATIONS, WEBSITES AND DIRECT CORRESPONDENCE WITH THE MEMBER SOCIETIES. PROCESSING OF FELLOWSHIP APPLICATIONS THROUGH AD-HOC SELECTING COMMITTEES, NOTIFICATION OF THE WINNERS, AWARDING OF GRANTS, COLLECTING FINAL RESEARCH RESULTS.
