(BBF) WAS ESTABLISHED TO FOSTER AND ADVANCE INNOVATION, RESEARCH, STANDARDIZATION, AND EDUCATION IN SYNTHETIC BIOLOGY THROUGH OPEN DESIGN, CONSTRUCTION, DISTRIBUTION, UNDERSTANDING, AND USE OF BIOBRICK PARTS, NAMELY STANDARDIZED GENETIC MATERIALS AND ASSOCIATED FUNCTIONAL INFORMATION, IN WAYS THAT BENEFIT SCIENCE, HEALTHCARE, AND SOCIETY WORLDWIDE. BBF DEVELOPED A BIOBRICKS PUBLIC AGREEMENT IN BOTH A CONTRIBUTOR AND USER FORM TO ENCOURAGE THE CONTRIBUTION AND USE OF STANDARDIZED BIOLOGICAL PARTS. IN ADDITION TO EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES, BBF ALSO WAS A LEAD ORGANIZATION IN THE LAUNCH OF THE BIOFAB, A CONSORTIUM OF RESEARCH INSTITUTIONS WHICH HAVE A SYNTHETIC BIOLOGY LAB AT THE JOINT BIOENERGY INSTITUTE IN EMERYVILLE, CA.
