ARISE CHICAGO BUILDS PARTNERSHIPS BETWEEN FAITH COMMUNITIES AND WORKERS TO FIGHT WORKPLACE INJUSTICE THROUGH EDUCATION, ORGANIZING, AND ADVOCATING FOR PUBLIC POLICY CHANGES.

WORKER EDUCATION: IN 2021, ARISE CHICAGO PROVIDED MASS WORKER EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND RESOURCES TO LOW-PAID, PRIMARILY IMMIGRANT WORKERS FACING WAGE THEFT, DANGEROUS WORKPLACE CONDITIONS BECAUSE OF COVID-19, OTHER HEALTH AND SAFETY HAZARDS, DISCRIMINATION, OR OTHER ABUSE. 860 WORKERS PARTICIPATED LIVE IN VIRTUAL OR IN-PERSON WORKSHOPS. OVER 901,600 PEOPLE SAW OUR EDUCATIONAL VIDEOS, POSTS, AND HANDOUTS ON SOCIAL MEDIA. ARISE ALSO CREATED A NEW DOMESTIC-WORKER SPECIFIC TRAINING.


WORKPLACE IMPROVEMENTS: IN 2021, ARISE CHICAGO PROVIDED INFORMATION AND SUPPORT TO WORKERS TO RECOVER STOLEN WAGES AND COMPENSATION, AND CREATE SAFER CONDITIONS AND PROTECT THEIR LIVES DURING THE COVID PANDEMIC, AND CREATE OVERALL WORKPLACE IMPROVEMENTS INCLUDING WINNING WAGE INCREASES. RECOVERED OVER $455,768.50 IN OWED WAGES AND COMPENSATION FOR LOW-PAID WORKERS. SUPPORTED WORKERS TO INCREASE WAGES BY APPROXIMATELY $687,420 IN 2021.


POLICY CHANGE & GOVERNMENT IMPROVEMENT: CITY: ARISE CHICAGO'S ADVOCACY LED TO INCLUDING ANTI-WAGE THEFT AND DOMESTIC WORKER PROTECTIONS IN THE "CHI BIZ STRONG ORDINANCE, PASSED BY CITY COUNCIL IN SUMMER 2021. THE ORDINANCE INCLUDES ENDING THE DOMESTIC WORKER SUB-MINIMUM WAGE, AND CREATES THE HISTORIC REQUIREMENT FOR DOMESTIC WORKER EMPLOYERS TO PROVIDE WRITTEN CONTRACTS. WON IMPROVEMENTS TO THE PASSED CHICAGO VACCINE ANTI-RETALIATION ORDINANCE. COUNTY: ADVISED FOR THE SUCCESSFUL PASSAGE OF THE COVID-19 VACCINATION RIGHTS FOR EMPLOYEES AND PROHIBITION OF RETALIATION BY EMPLOYERS ORDINANCE TO PROTECT WORKERS' RIGHT TO TAKE TIME OFF FROM WORK TO RECEIVE THE COVID-19 FREE FROM EMPLOYER RETALIATION. FEDERAL: TOGETHER WITH THE NATIONAL IMMIGRANT LAW CENTER, SUCCESSFULLY ADVOCATED FOR THE ABOLITION OF THE USE OF NO-MATCH LETTERS BY THE SOCIAL SECURITY ADMINISTRATION, WHICH HAD AN DISCRIMINATORY IMPACT ON IMMIGRANTS AND WORKERS OF COLOR.B THIS VICTORY PROTECTED MILLIONS OF PRIMARILY IMMIGRANT WORKERS ACROSS THE COUNTRY FROM UNJUST FIRINGS OR OTHER NEGATIVE EMPLOYER ACTIONS.


ELEVATE WORKER VOICES AND STORIES: ARISE GARNERED OVER 220 MEDIA PIECES, LIFTING THE VOICES AND STORIES OF WORKER STRUGGLES IN THE PUBLIC NARRATIVE. ARISE ALSO SERVED ON SEVERAL CITY AND COUNTY TASK FORCES AND WORKING GROUPS TO BRING LOW-WAGE AND IMMIGRANT WORKER VOICES TO DECISION MAKING TABLES TO ADDRESS COVID AT WORK AND COVID RECOVERY EQUITY, INCLUDING THE CHICAGO PROTECTING WORKERS WORKING GROUP, CHICAGO COVID WORKFORCE TASK FORCE, CHICAGO COMMUNITY ACCOUNTABILITY COMMITTEE, COOK COUNTY EQUITY TASK FORCE, ILLINOIS UNIDOS.
