IN ITS 2022-2023 SEASON, FACTION PRODUCED LOVE LIKE TUESDAY, A NEW COMMISSIONED PLAY BY DOUG ROBINSON WRITTEN WITH THE COMPANY OF FACTION OF FOOLS THROUGH A NEW COLLABORATIVE PLAYWRIGHTING PROCESS. FIRST IN JULY 2022, A STAGED READING OF LOVE LIKE TUESDAY WAS PRODUCED, THEN IN FEBRUARY/MARCH 2023, A FULLY STAGED PRODUCTION. THE PRODUCTION WAS A CRITICAL AND FINANCIAL SUCCESS, AND FINANCIALLY AND GEOGRAPHICALLY ACCESSIBLE TO LOCAL AUDIENCES. IT RECEIVED RAVE REVIEWS, STRONG TICKET SALES, AND A HELEN HAYES RECOMMENDATION. THIS PRODUCTION IS THE MOST ATTENDED THEATRICAL PRODUCTION AT CHAW SINCE BEFORE THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC. THE PROJECT PRESENTED 16 PERFORMANCES (4 OPEN CAPTIONED FOR THE DEAF AND HARD OF HEARING), SERVED 524 AUDIENCE MEMBERS, AND CONTRACTED 30 LOCAL ARTISTS AND TECHNICIANS. DURING THIS PRODUCTION, FACTION ALSO ADVANCED ITS RESEARCH, COMMISSIONING MASK MAKER TARA CARIASO TO DESIGN AND FABRICATE A NEW 21-MASK SET. FACTION DEVELOPED A MULTI-STEP COLLABORATIVE DESIGN PROCESS IN WHICH CARIASO DESIGNED CUSTOM MASKS FOR EACH ACTOR, INCORPORATING THEIR FEEDBACK ON SHAPE, COLOR, AND EXPRESSION. IN DECEMBER 2022, FACTION OF FOOLS RELEASED ON VIDEO SERIES TITLED LETS LEARN LAZZI, WHICH OFFERS FREE ACCESS TO COMEDIC TRAINING TOOLS.IN ALIGNMENT WITH ITS COMPANY VALUE "ACCESSIBILITY OF THE CRAFT," FACTION OFFERED FREE WORKSHOPS TO DCPS STUDENTS, COORDINATED STUDENT MATINEE PERFORMANCES OF LOVE LIKE TUESDAY, AND INVITED PROFESSIONAL ACTORS TO FREE TRAINING. COMMEDIA IS AN IMPORTANT PART OF HIGH SCHOOL THEATRE CURRICULUM AND A POWERFUL TOOL FOR PROFESSIONAL ACTOR TRAINING. THE FORM ALSO OFFERS ELEMENTARY-LEVEL STUDENTS OPPORTUNITIES FOR EMOTIONAL AND CREATIVE EXPRESSION, EMPOWERING THE PARTICIPANTS TO CREATE THEIR OWN FUN, PHYSICAL CHARACTERS AND TELL THEIR OWN STORIES.FACTION STRIVES TO MAKE CONTRACTING WITH THE COMPANY MORE ACCESSIBLE BY INCREASING ARTIST STIPENDS BY A MINIMUM OF 5% ANNUALLY, OFFERING FLEXIBLE SCHEDULES, CHOOSING WORK LOCATIONS ACCESSIBLE BY PUBLIC TRANSIT, AND OFFERING FREE TRAINING TO PERFORMERS. FOR ITS AUDIENCES, THE COMPANY SELECTS IN-PERSON DC PERFORMANCE VENUES THAT ARE EASILY ACCESSED VIA PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION, AND THE PERFORMANCE VENUE, CAPITOL HILL ARTS WORKSHOP, CAN BE ACCESSED BY EASTERN MARKET METRO.
