PATHFINDER VILLAGE, INC. WILL PROMOTE A HEALTHY, PROGRESSIVE ENVIRONMENT THAT RESPECTS THE INDIVIDUAL, SUPPORTING A LIFE OF VALUE AND INDEPENDENCE.

Part 3 - Line 4a

PRIVATE PAY AND OTHER PROGRAMS - PATHFINDER VILLAGE IS A RESIDENTIAL FACILITY FOR CHILDREN AND ADULTS WITH DOWN SYNDROME. THIS PROGRAM CURRENTLY SERVES 20 RESIDENTS. RESIDENTS AT PATHFINDER ARE OFFERED A VAST ARRAY OF OPPORTUNITIES TO BE ACTIVE WITHIN THE SURROUNDING COMMUNITIES. EIGHT OF THE ADULT RESIDENTS ARE COMPETITIVELY EMPLOYED BY AREA BUSINESSES INCLUDING; RESTAURANTS, FACTORIES, NURSING HOMES AND HOSPITAL. THOSE NOT EMPLOYED IN THE COMMUNITY ATTEND DAY PROGRAMS PROVIDED BY THE ARC. IN THEIR SPARE TIME, SOME VOLUNTEER AT AREA MUSEUMS AND SCHOOLS. WHEN THE WORK DAY IS DONE RESIDENTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE VILLAGE'S RECREATION PROGRAM. THIS INCLUDES ORGANIZED SPORTS, CREATIVE ARTS, MUSIC, BELL CHOIR, KARAOKE, GAMES AND SPECIAL OLYMPICS. THE RESIDENTS ALSO TAKE MANY TRIPS INCLUDING; DINNER OUTINGS, MOVIES, SWIMMING, BOWLING, SKIING, CAMPING, AND VACATIONS TO VARIOUS DESTINATIONS. IN THEIR HOMES, THE RESIDENTS SPEND TIME SHARING FAMILY MOMENTS, LIKE DINNER, CHORES AND GAMES WITH THEIR HOUSEMATES AND STAFF.


IRA - EIGHT HOMES AND ONE APARTMENT AT PATHFINDER VILLAGE ARE INDIVIDUAL RESIDENTIAL ALTERNATIVES CERTIFIED BE THE NYS OFFICE OF PEOPLE WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES. THIS PROGRAM CURRENTLY SERVES 47 ADULTS. SEVERAL OF THESE RESIDENTS ARE COMPETITIVELY EMPLOYED BY AN AREA FACTORY AND HOSPITAL. THOSE NOT EMPLOYED IN THE COMMUNITY ATTEND DAY PROGRAMS PROVIDED BY THE ARC. WHEN THE WORK DAY IS DONE RESIDENTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE VILLAGE'S RECREATION PROGRAM. THIS INCLUDES ORGANIZED SPORTS, CREATIVE ARTS, MUSIC, BELL CHOIR, KARAOKE, GAMES AND SPECIAL OLYMPICS. EDUCATION - SCHOOL-AGED STUDENTS AT PATHFINDER VILLAGE ARE OFFERED AN EXCEPTIONAL EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE; ONE THAT IS CUSTOM-FIT TO MEET EACH STUDENT'S INDIVIDUAL NEEDS AND ABILITIES. THE SCHOOL WAS RECENTLY CHOSEN FOR THE "SCHOOL OF EXCELLENCE" AWARD BY THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATIONOF SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHERS. THE SCHOOL CURRENTLY SERVES 22 STUDENTS AND OPERATES FOUR CLASSROOMS: PRIMARY, INTERMEDIATE, JR. HIGH AND SR. HIGH. FOUR SR. HIGH STUDENTS ALSO PARTICIPATE IN A PRE-VOCATIONAL PROGRAM DESIGNED TO HELP STUDENTS WITH THEIR JOB READINESS SKILLS. THEPATHFINDER SCHOOL OFFERS A FULL ACADEMIC CURRICULUM IN ADDITION TO SPEECH & LANGUAGE SERVICES, ADAPTIVE PHYSICAL EDUCATION, CREATIVE ARTS AND TECHNOLOGY/LIBRARY.
