EN FOCO, INC. NURTURES AND SUPPORTS CONTEMPORARY FINE ART AND DOCUMENTARY PHOTOGRAPHERS OF DIVERSE CULTURES, PRIMARILY U.S. RESIDENTS OF LATINO, AFRICAN AND ASIAN HERITAGE, AND NATIVE PEOPLES OF THE AMERICAS AND THE PACIFIC.

ARTIST SUPPORT - EN FOCO SERVES ARTISTS ON A CITY-WIDE BASIS AS WELL AS THROUGHOUT NYS WITH 90% OF ARTISTS RESIDING IN THE 5 BOROS. FELLOWSHIPS ARE AWARDED TO 10 ARTISTS ANNUALLY THROUGH A PEER-REVIEW PROCESS. EACH YEAR FELLOWSHIP RECIPIENTS ARE AWARDED $1,500 EACH AND THEIR WORK IS EXHIBITED IN A LOCAL VENUE AND FEATURED IN A NUEVA LUZ ISSUE. THE COMMUNITY EXHIBITIONS PROGRAM FEATURES EXHIBITIONS HOSTED IN ALTERNATIVE SPACES, PROVIDING OPPORTUNITIES FOR FELLOWSHIP APPLICANTS. EN FOCO ALSO OFFERS OTHER GRANTS PROGRAMS LIKE THE MEDIA ARTS FUND, WHICH SUPPORTS 5 MEDIA-BASED ARTISTS, AND THE NUEVA LUZ STUDY CENTER COMMISSIONING FUND, WHICH AWARDED 3 ARTISTS WITH THE OPPORTUNITY TO CREATE UNIQUE WORKS IN RESPONSE TO THE NUEVA LUZ DIGITAL ARCHIVES.
NUEVA LUZ - IS PUBLISHED TWICE ANNUALLY SHOWCASING CONTEMPORARY PHOTOGRAPHY AND CULTURAL COMMENTARY ON ISSUES OF SOCIAL JUSTICE AND ADVOCACY. NUEVA LUZ IS DISTRIBUTED EXTENSIVELY IN PRINT AND DIGITAL EDITIONS WITH 70 ISSUES PUBLISHED TO DATE, FEATURING MORE THAN 250 ARTISTS, AND 70 ART COMMENTATORS. FIRST PUBLISHED IN 1985, THE NUEVA LUZ JOURNAL IS THE NATIONS LONGEST RUNNING PUBLICATION DEDICATED TO EXPANDING THE DISCOURSE ON FINE ART AND DOCUMENTARY PHOTOGRAPHERS FROM DIVERSE AND UNDERREPRESENTED CULTURES. THE ARTISTS PUBLISHED IN EACH EDITION PROVIDE A PHOTOGRAPHIC SURVEY OF MARGINALIZED COMMUNITIES, MUSINGS ON IDENTITY, AND DOCUMENTATION OF HISTORICAL EVENTS. NOTABLE CONTRIBUTORS INCLUDE ARTISTS CARRIE MAE WEEMS, SOPHIE RIVERA, DAWOUD BEY; ESSAYISTS LUCY LIPPARD, DEBORAH WILLIS, ELIZABETH FERRER.
