DURING 2019-2020, STYLE WARS, A PUBLIC ART FILMS, INC. PRODUCTION, WAS SCREENED FOR THE PUBLIC AT THE BRONX MUSEUM OF THE ARTS; IN THE ASOLO THEATER AT THE RINGLING MUSEUM OF ART, SARASOTA FL; THE CENTER FOR ARCHITECTURE AND METROPOLITAN PLANNING, PRAGUE; AT THE 13TH BIENAL DE LA HABANA, RE-THINKING FUTURE/LA CONSTRUCCIN DE LO POSIBLE. AT THE GRAFFITI/HIP HOP FESTIVAL, THE BROADWAY THEATER, SASKATOON, SASKATCHEWAN. WITH THE ACCUMULATED FUNDS FROM SCREENINGS, SALES AND LICENSING FOOTAGE, PUBLIC ART FILMS INC. CONTINUED TO CONTRIBUTE PROJECT FUNDING FOR:1) LA MADRINA: THE SAVAGE LIFE OF LORINE PADILLA A PUBLIC ART FILMS CO-PRODUCTION. LA MADRINA IS A FEATURE LENGTH DOCUMENTARY THAT PAINTS A MOVING PORTRAIT OF A RAPIDLY SHIFTING BRONX, SPANNING FIVE DECADES, THROUGH THE LIFE OF A CHARISMATIC COMMUNITY ACTIVIST AND FORMER GANG MATRIARCH. OUR PROTAGONIST, LORINE PADILLA, 62, IS THE FORMER "FIRST LADY" OF THE 1970'S-'80S BRONX GANG, THE SAVAGE SKULLS, WHO, WHILE STILL PART OF THE OUTLAW SUBCULTURE, IS A REVERED COMMUNITY ACTIVIST AND SPIRITUAL SAGE. PADILLA'S LIFE IS A PRISM THROUGH WHICH WE WILL ILLUSTRATE HOW AN OSTENSIBLY ORDINARY WOMAN CAN RISE ABOVE HER ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL CIRCUMSTANCES TO ACTIVATE AND DEMAND CHANGE. LA MADRINA WAS COMPLETED EARLY IN 2020. IT WAS ACCEPTED IN THE 2020 TRIBECA FILM FESTIVAL, NEW YORK CITY, WHICH HAS BEEN POSTPONED TO THE FALL OR BEYOND DUE TO COVID 19. 2) FROM A CHILD'S POINT OF VIEW TO SUPPORT A 4TH-GRADE INTERDISCIPLINARY EDUCATIONAL THEATRE AND VISUAL ARTS PROJECT IMPLEMENTED IN FOUR CLASSROOMS IN TWO BELLINGHAM, WASHINGTON ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS.PUBLIC ART FILMS,INC. CONTINUED AS THE FISCAL SPONSOR FOR MICHAEL SHARKEY WHO RECEIVED INSTALLMENTS OF A GRANT FROM THE PALETTE FUND, INC. TO WORK ON HIS PROJECT, "QUEER KIDS".
