TO CARE, PRESERVE AND CONSERVE HISTORICALLY SIGNIFICANT TEXTILES FOR NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS SUCH AS MUSEUMS, LOCAL AND STATE HISTORIC AGENCIES AND COLLECTORS.THE WORKSHOP:- PROVIDES COMPREHENSIVE CONSERVATION SERVICES IN A FULLY-EQUIPPED LABORATORY SETTING; - PROVIDES CONDITION SURVEYS OF TEXTILE COLLECTIONS WITH RECOMMENDATIONS FOR STORAGE, EXHIBITION AND TREATMENT PROCEDURES;- SERVES THE NEED OF CULTURAL ORGANIZATIONS WITH OR WITHOUT IN-HOUSE CONSERVATION DEPARTMENTS THROUGHOUT THE UNITED STATES.

THE TEXTILE CONSERVATION WORKSHOP PROVIDES REPAIR, CLEANING, DISPLAY AND STORAGE SERVICES FOR TEXTILES SUCH AS: - ARCHAEOLOGICAL AND ETHNOGRAPHIC TEXTILES, ETHNIC AND ECCLESIASTICAL TEXTILES, NATIVE AMERICAN TEXTILES, EUROPEAN AND ASIAN TEXTILES, JUDAICA- NEEDLEWORK, LACES, NEEDLEPOINT, SAMPLERS, CROCHETED AND KNITTED WORK, SILK MEMORIAL EMBROIDERIES, THEOREMS- ANTIQUE HOUSEHOLD AND DOMESTIC TEXTILES, QUILTS, COVERLETS, COSTUMES AND ACCESSORIES- TAPESTRIES, PILE AND FLAT WOVEN RUGS, HOOKED RUGS- FLAGS AND BANNERS, POLITICAL AND SPORTS MEMORABILIA, PAINTED TEXTILES- THREE DIMENSIONAL TEXTILES OBJECTS SUCH AS DOLLS, FANS, PARASOLS, BONNETS, HATS CONTEMPORARY FABRIC SCULPTURE, NEEDLEWORK UPHOLSTERED FURNITURE, MID-CENTURY MODERN FURNITURE- MODERN ART TEXTILES: PAINTED, SILK-SCREENED, PASTELS, GOUACHEIN ADDITION TO CONSERVATION TREATMENTS AT THE WORKSHOP, TCW CONSERVATORS TRAVEL TO HISTORIC SITES THROUGHOUT THE REGION TO OFFER EDUCATIONAL LECTURES. THESE ACTIVITIES ARE AIMED AT ENLIGHTENING THE GENERAL PUBLIC AND TRAINING MUSEUM STAFF AND VOLUNTEERS. LECTURE TOPICS INCLUDE: GENERAL CONSERVATION OF TEXTILES, TEXTILES IN THE HISTORIC HOUSE, ARCHIVAL STORAGE OF TEXTILES, CONSERVATION OF HISTORIC SAMPLERS, CONSERVATION OF HISTORIC WEDDING DRESSES. LECTURES ARE ACCOMPANIED BY SLIDES OR POWERPOINT VISUALS, WHICH HIGHLIGHT OBJECTS THAT HAVE RECEIVED CONSERVATION TREATMENT AT TCW. AT THESE GATHERINGS, WE WELCOME QUESTION-AND-ANSWER SESSIONS, AND MORE SPECIFIC INQUIRIES ABOUT PRIVATELY-OWNED OBJECTS OR PIECES FROM THE COLLECTION OF THE HOST MUSEUM.
