COMMUNITY CYCLES EDUCATES AND ADVOCATES FOR THE USE OF BICYCLES AS AN AFFORDABLE, VIABLE, SUSTAINABLE MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION.

Describe the Organization's Program Activity:

Part 3 - Line 4a

EDUCATIONAL AND RETAIL SHOP: OUR IN-HOUSE EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM TEACHES PEOPLE HOW TO REPAIR BIKES. THE STUDENTS STRIP AND REFURBISH DONATED BIKES WHICH WE EITHER RECYCLE OR SELL TO SUPPORT BICYCLE COMMUTING IN OUR COMMUNITY. AT THE END OF THE PROGRAM, THE STUDENTS BUILD AND TAKE HOME A BIKE. DURING 2020, WE RECEIVED 2,704 DONATED BIKES, RECYCLED 1,837 BICYCLES, REFURBISHED AND SOLD 864 BICYCLES, AND GAVE AWAY 327 BIKES. IN ADDITION, THESE USED BIKE PARTS, SHOP TOOLS, MECHANICS, AND INSTRUCTORS HELP OUR MEMBERS TO MAINTAIN THEIR OWN BICYCLES.


OUTREACH AND BIKE AMBASSADORS: OUR OUTREACH PROGRAM SERVES TO EDUCATE AND ENCOURAGE POTENTIAL NEW BICYCLISTS AND TO ADVOCATE BICYCLES AS A SAFE AND VIABLE MEANS OF PRIMARY TRANSPORTATION. WE HOLD IN-HOUSE WORKSHOPS, ATTEND AND HOLD EVENTS, HOLD CLASSES AT EMPLOYER SITES AND SCHOOLS, SEND NEWSLETTERS,ETC., TO ACCOMPLISH THIS.


WALK AND BIKE MONTH: DURING WALK AND BIKE MONTH, WE ENCOURAGE PEOPLE TO TRY OUT BICYCLING AS A MEANS OF COMMUTING TO WORK. FOR 2021, DUE TO COVID RESTRICTIONS, WE HELD ASYNCHRONOUS AND ONLINE EVENTS TO ENCOURAGE PEOPLE TO KEEP CYCLING IN THEIR COMMUNITY.
