COMMUNITY VOCATIONAL SERVICES, INC. PROVIDES OPPORTUNITIES FOR PERSONS WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES BY PROVIDING SUPPORTED EMPLOYMENT SERVICES AND OTHER COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT ACTIVITIES.

DSO - DAY SERVICE OPTIONS PREPARES PARTICIPANTS FOR WORK AND/OR COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION, EMPHASIZES SOCIALIZATIONS, SELF-CARE SKILLS, INDEPENDENT FUNCTIONING SKILLS, DEVELOPING FRIENDSHIPS, OBTAINING VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES, SUPPORTING THERAPEUTIC ACTIVITIES RELATING TO PHYSICAL THERAPY AND BEHAVIOR MANAGEMENT WHERE NEEDED. SERVICES ARE CONDUCTED AT THE SITE IN WATERFORD AND MANY OTHER GENERIC RESOURCES WITHIN THE COMMUNITY. EACH PERSON IS REFERRED AND SUPPORTED BY DIVISION OF DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES(DDS, CT) AND HAS AN INDIVIDUAL PLAN WITH SPECIFIC GOALS. A TOTAL OF 12 CLIENTS BENEFITTED FROM THIS PROGRAM.


SUPPORTED EMPLOYMENT (ISE) PARTICIPANTS IN ISE OBTAIN JOBS IN THE COMMUNITY WHILE RECEIVING OTHER SUPPORTS FOR NONWORK NEEDS THROUGH COMMUNITY VOCATIONAL SERVICES OR OTHER ORGANIZATIONS. THE MAIN FOCUS OF ISE IS FOR CVS TO OBTAIN MEANINGFUL PAID WORK IN THE COMMUNITY, ASSIST THE PERSON IN KEEPING THEIR JOB, AND WORK CLOSELY WITH THE MANAGEMENT OF THE WORKSITE IN ORDER TO ADDRESS ANY PARTICULAR JOB RELATED CHANGES, ISSUES OR QUESTIONS. MANY PEOPLE SERVED ASSIMILATE INTO THE CULTURE OF EACH JOB THUS REDUCING DEPENDENCE ON THE SUPPORT SYSTEM AND MORE RELIANCE ON NATURAL SUPPORTS WITHIN THE COMMUNITY. A TOTAL OF 4 CLIENTS BENEFITTED FROM THIS PROGRAM.


CONTINUOUS RESIDENTIAL SUPPORTS (CRS) COMMUNITY VOCATIONAL SERVICES CURRENTLY PROVIDES CRS SUPPORTS THROUGH THREE RESIDENCES OPERATED BY CVS, BUT LEASED BY EACH PARTICIPANT. THE MAIN FOCUS OF A CRS IS TO OFFER COMMUNITY BASED HOUSING THROUGHOUT VARIOUS TOWNS WHERE A PERSON CAN BECOME A MEMBER OF THEIR COMMUNITY, LEARN INDEPENDENT LIVING SKILLS, RESIDE WITH OTHERS, BE MORE RELIANT ON A LESS DEPENDENT SUPPORT SYSTEM, LEARN RESPONSIBILITIES OF CARING AND MAINTAINING THEIR OWN HOME WHILE WORKING ON ANY NUMBER OF RESIDENTIAL GOALS CONTAINED WITHIN THEIR INDIVIDUAL PLAN. A TOTAL OF 8 CLIENTS BENEFITTED FROM THIS PROGRAM.


INDIVIDUAL DAY; NON-VOCATIONAL AND VOCATIONAL: THIS SERVICE FOCUSES ON COMMUNITY AS WELL AS HOME BASED SUPPORTS IN ORDER TO ALLOW FOR GROWTH IN INTERPERSONAL SKILLS, SELF CARE SKILLS, COMMUNITY ACCESS, AND ONE ON ONE OR SMALL GROUP ACTIVITIES ALL DESIGNED WITH A HIGH ATTENTION TO INDEPENDENCE, COMMUNITY INTEGRATION AND INDEPENDENCE EVEN THOUGH PAID EMPLOYMENT IS NOT NECESSARILY THE GOAL. A TOTAL OF 20 CLIENTS BENEFITTED FROM THIS PROGRAM. SENIOR SUPPORTS: SENIOR SUPPORTS ARE PROVIDED FOR OLDER INDIVIDUALS, OR INDIVIDUALS WHO HAVE NEEDS THAT CLOSELY RESEMBLE THOSE OF AN OLDER PERSON, WHO DESIRE A LIFESTYLE CONSISTENT WITH THAT OF THE COMMUNITY'S POPULATION OF SIMILAR AGE OR CIRCUMSTANCES. THIS SUPPORT IS INTENDED TO FACILITATE INDEPENDENCE AND PROMOTE COMMUNITY INCLUSION AS WELL AS PREVENT ISOLATION. SENIOR SUPPORTS CONSIST OF A VARIETY OF ACTIVITIES THAT ARE DESIGNED TO ASSIST THE INDIVIDUAL IN MAINTAINING SKILLS AND STIMULATING SOCIAL INTERACTIONS WITH OTHERS. SERVICES MAY BE IN THE COMMUNITY OR THE HOME. A TOTAL OF 2 CLIENTS BENEFITTED FROM THIS PROGRAM. INDIVIDUAL HOME SUPPORTS (IHS): IHS FOCUSES ON PROVIDING ASSISTANCE TO INDIVIDUALS WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITY WHO LIVE ON THEIR OWN OR WITH THEIR FAMILIES. A TOTAL OF 8 CLIENTS BENEFITTED FROM THIS PROGRAM.
