ALAQUA ANIMAL REFUGE (AAR) WAS FOUNDED ON THE CORE BELIEF THAT EVERY ABUSED, NEGLECTED AND HOMELESS ANIMAL DESERVES A SECOND CHANCE. OUR MISSION IS TO BE A LEADING ADVOCATE FOR ALL ANIMALS IN NEED RESULTING IN A KINDER, MORE EMPATHETIC WORLD FOR ALL LIVING SOULS. SIGNIFICANT ACTIVITIES IN 2021 THAT IMPACTED OUR MISSION AND VISION WERE: THE OPENING OF ALAQUA WILDLIFE REHABILITATION CENTER; THE ADDITION OF A SECOND AAR LOCATION TO BETTER SERVE ALL ANIMALS WITH THE COMPLETION OF A WELCOME CENTER ON THE NEW PROPERTY HOUSING ANIMAL SERVICES AND ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICES; NEW SITE CONSTRUCTION BEGUN FOR DOG ADOPTION CENTER, CAT CABINS, ANIMAL QUARANTINE FACILITY, PUPPY SUITES, ANIMAL ADMISSIONS/INTAKE FACILITY, AND ADDITIONAL PASTURES FOR LARGE ANIMALS.

ALAQUA ANIMAL REFUGE IS RECOGNIZED AS A PREMIER NO-KILL REFUGE PROVIDING PROTECTION, SHELTER, AND CARE TO ANIMALS AND IS ENGAGED IN MULTIPLE NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL PARTNERSHIPS FOCUSED ON THE PROTECTION OF ANIMALS IN NEED. IN 2021, ALAQUA ANIMAL REFUGE RESCUED AND PROVIDED SHELTER AND MEDICAL CARE FOR 1,686 ANIMALS, PERFORMED APPROXIMATELY 1,450 SURGERIES, AND FOUND HOMES FOR 1,074 ANIMALS THROUGH OUR FULL-SERVICE ANIMAL ADOPTION PROGRAM. WE OPENED THE DOORS OF OUR WILDLIFE REHABILITATION CENTER IN SEPTEMBER 2021, PROVIDING CARE (INCLUDING 6 SURGERIES) FOR 131 NATIVE BIRDS, MAMMALS, AND REPTILES (46 DIFFERENT SPECIES) FROM SEPTEMBER 29 - DECEMBER 31, 2021, AND WERE ABLE TO SAVE AND RELEASE 19% BACK INTO THEIR NATURAL HABITATS.
