INSTRUCTION IN SCOTTISH MUSIC AND DANCE:ALASDAIR FRASERS SIERRA FIDDLE CAMP WAS HELD FROM JUNE 17 THROUGH JUNE 25, 2023. EIGHTEEN INSTRUCTORS TAUGHT FIDDLE, GUITAR, PIANO, SONG AND DANCE TO 146 STUDENTS WITH EXPERIENCE RANGING FROM BEGINNING TO MASTER LEVEL. VALLEY OF THE MOON SCOTTISH FIDDLE CAMP (AUG 26-SEPT 3, 2023) PROVIDED SIMILAR CLASSES AT ALL SKILL LEVELS TO 208 PARTICIPANTS, TAUGHT BY 20 INSTRUCTORS. THE PETER CONNOLLY AND CALI FUNDS PROVIDED $36,950 IN FINANCIAL AID TO PARTICIPANTS. THE SAN FRANCISCO SCOTTISH FIDDLERS HELD 11 MONTHLY MEETINGS WITH IN-PERSON AND ZOOM OPTIONS, AVERAGING 30 ATTENDEES. THREE OF THE MEETINGS INCLUDED MUSIC WORKSHOPS. THERE WERE 5 REHEARSALS FOR CONCERTS AND 9 REHEARSALS FOR FARMERS MARKET PERFORMANCES. THE SCOTTISH FIDDLERS OF LOS ANGELES HELD 12 REHEARSALS FOR HIGHLAND GAMES AND OTHER PERFORMANCES.
PUBLIC PERFORMANCE OF SCOTTISH MUSIC AND DANCE:ALASDAIR FRASER'S SIERRA CAMP HELD A FREE OUTDOOR CONCERT AT PIONEER PARK IN NEVADA CITY ON JUNE 24 WITH 140 PERFORMERS AND ESTIMATED 300 ATTENDEES. VALLEY OF THE MOON CAMP HELD A CONCERT AT THE SANTA CRUZ SHAKESPEARE THEATRE ON SEPT 1, 2023 WITH 180 PERFORMERS AND AN AUDIENCE OF 400. SAN FRANCISCO SCOTTISH FIDDLERS PERFORMED AT 11 FARMERS MARKETS TO AUDIENCES OF 400 PER EVENT, AND GAVE THREE CONCERTS, ON MAY 19, 20,AND 21, WITH 60 PERFORMERS AT EACH CONCERT AND A COMBINED AUDIENCE OF 930; AND GAVE 9 OTHER BAY AREA PERFORMANCES AVERAGING 15 PERFORMERS AND AUDIENCES OF 200 AT EACH PERFORMANCE. SCOTTISH FIDDLERS OF LOS ANGELES PERFORMED AT THE SCOTTISHFEST, SPONSORED BY UNITED SCOTTISH SOCIETY, ON MAY 27, 2023, WITH 21 PERFORMERS; AND 17 PERFORMERS PLAYED AT THE SEASIDE HIGHLAND GAMES IN VENTURA ON OCTOBER 15, 2023.
DISSEMINATION OF EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS: ALASDAIR FRASERS SIERRA FIDDLE CAMP AND VALLEY OF THE MOON PROVIDED SHEET MUSIC TO ATTENDEES. BOTH CAMPS ALSO PROVIDED VIDEO RECORDINGS OF MANY OF THE ACTIVITIES. ARTISTS' RECORDINGS AND BOOKS WERE AVAILABLE FOR SALE DURING CAMP. SFSF PROVIDED MONTHLY NEWSLETTERS TO 240 MEMBERS. THREE BOUND COPIES OF 900 COLLECTED TRADITIONAL AND CONTEMPORARY TUNES WERE PROVIDED TO MEMBERS AT COST. MOST OF THE COLLECTION IS AVAILABLE FOR MEMBERS TO DOWNLOAD FOR FREE. ADDITIONALLY, AUDIO RECORDINGS AND SHEET MUSIC FOR PERFORMANCES PROVIDED TO MEMBERSHIP (FREE DOWNLOAD). ADDITIONALLY, AUDIO RECORDINGS CREATED BY MEMBERS AND OTHER PRACTICE AIDS ARE AVAILABLE TO MEMBERS FOR THE SPRING CONCERTS, GIGS, AND MONTHLY MEETINGS ARE AVAILABLE TO MEMBERS ONLINE. SFLA MAINTAINS AN INTERNET ACCOUNT OF SOUND FILES, PRACTICE RECORDINGS OF TUNES AND SHEET MUSIC FOR THEIR 30 MEMBERS.
