Part 3 - Line 4a
THE SEQUOIA DADS' CLUB FUNDS EXTENSIVE ENRICHMENT PROGRAMMING TO APPROXIMATELY 440 STUDENTS AT SEQUOIA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, INCLUDING WEEKLY ART, SCIENCE, GARDEN, AND MUSIC INSTRUCTION. ALL OF THE ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS THAT WE FUND OFFER HIGH QUALITY INSTRUCTION. PROFESSIONAL ARTISTS GUIDE STUDENTS AS THEY WORK IN A RANGE OF MEDIA, INCLUDING DRAWING, PAINTING, BOOKMAKING, AND SCULPTURE. SUPPLEMENTAL SCIENCE INSTRUCTION IS TIGHTLY COORDINATED WITH THE REGULAR CLASSROOM SCIENCE CURRICULUM AND PROVIDES STUDENTS WITH EXTENDED OPPORTUNITIES FOR HANDS-ON SCIENCE EXPLORATIONS. OUR GARDEN AND NUTRITION PROGRAM PROVIDE ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE EDUCATION FOR STUDENTS WHO PLANT, TEND, HARVEST, AND EAT FOOD GROWN IN THE SCHOOL GARDENS. (PLEASE SEE SCHEDULE O FOR FURTHER DETAILS) MUSIC ENRICHMENT PROVIDES A VARIETY OF JOYFUL MUSICAL EXPERIENCES, INCLUDING AFRICAN DRUMMING, CHORAL PERFORMANCES, AND BAND INSTRUMENT INSTRUCTION. THESE ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES ARE KEY ELEMENTS OF STUDENTS' WELL-ROUNDED EDUCATION. THEY DEVELOP THE CHILDREN'S CREATIVE TALENTS, STIMULATE THEIR CURIOSITY, PROMOTE HANDS-ON LEARNING, AND ENCOURAGE SELF- EXPRESSION. STUDENTS' ENTHUSIASM FOR THEIR FAVORITE ACTIVITIES HELPS THEM STAY EXCITED ABOUT SCHOOL. THE ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES ALSO PROVIDE VALUABLE SUPPORT FOR TRADITIONAL SCHOOL SUBJECTS BY PROVIDING ACADEMIC EXPERIENCES IN DIFFERENT LEARNING MODALITIES. ADDITIONAL ACADEMIC SUPPORT IS POSSIBLE WHEN ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS ARE SCHEDULED IN A WAY THAT ENABLES TEACHERS TO WORK WITH STUDENTS IN SMALLER GROUPS TAILORED TO INDIVIDUAL NEEDS.
COMMUNITY IMPROVEMENT THE SEQUOIA DADS' CLUB SUPPORTS THE SCHOOL COMMUNITY THROUGH A VARIETY OF COMMUNITY-BUILDING PROJECTS THAT BENEFIT STUDENTS, TEACHERS, AND THE COMMUNITY. WE HELP FAMILIES TO BUILD CONNECTIONS AT OUR ANNUAL WELCOME PICNIC AND OTHER SOCIAL EVENTS AND BY PUBLISHING THE ANNUAL SCHOOL DIRECTORY. WE SPONSOR WORKSHOPS WHERE GUEST SPEAKERS ADDRESS TOPICS THAT ARE RELEVANT TO THE COMMUNITY. WE SUPPORT INVOLVEMENT IN AND ACCESS TO OUR PARENT GROUP MEETINGS BY PROVIDING CHILDCARE AND LIGHT DINNERS AT EVENING MEETINGS. WE PROVIDE BOTH FUNDS AND SWEAT EQUITY TO KEEP OUR SCHOOL BUILDING AND GROUNDS IN GOOD CONDITION. (PLEASE SEE SCHEDULE O FOR FURTHER DETAILS) ON THE SCHOOL GROUNDS, OUR WORK INCLUDES INSTALLING MAJOR GARDEN IMPROVEMENTS, MAINTAINING OUR IRRIGATION SYSTEM, AND KEEPING GARDENS MULCHED, WEEDED AND HEALTHY. WE HELP TEACHERS WITH PROJECTS THAT THEY IDENTIFY INSIDE THE BUILDINGS, INCLUDING PAINTING AREAS THAT NEED FRESHENING UP, AND BUILDING OR INSTALLING AMENITIES SUCH AS CUBBIES, SHELVES, AND COAT HOOKS. WE ALSO PROVIDE DIRECT FUNDING FOR CLASSROOM NEEDS SUCH AS TECHNOLOGY PURCHASES, FIELD TRIPS, AND CLASSROOM SUPPLIES.
