SUPPORTING SAILORS IN COMPETITION, AND YOUTH AND DISABLED ACCESS TO SAILING.

THE ST. FRANCIS SAILING FOUNDATION PROVIDES SUPPORT TO PROMISING YOUNG SAILORS JUST BEGINNING THEIR COMPETITIVE SAILING CAREERS AND ADVANCED COMPETITIVE SAILORS IN THE NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION. A PRIORITY OF THE FOUNDATION IS TO PROVIDE SUPPORT FOR US SAILORS AND WINDSURFERS WHO SHOW EXCEPTIONAL PROMISE TO ENABLE THEM TO COMPETE IN THE NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL COMPETITIONS LEADING UP TO THE OLYMPICS. THE FOUNDATION MAKES GRANTS TO DEVELOP THE INTERST AND SKILLS OF YOUTH IN THE SPORT OF SAILING BY SUPPORTING PROGRAMS THAT INTRODUCE YOUTH TO SAILING THROUGH THE PROGRAMS OF THE TREASURE ISLAND SAILING CENTER AND SEA SCOUTS, AND BY PROVIDING SCHOLARSHIPS FOR DISADVANTAGED YOUTH TO ATTEND SUMMER SAILING DAY CAMPS AND TRAINING PROGRAMS OFFERED BY THE ST. FRANCIS YACHT CLUB. THE FOUNDATION ALSO SUPPORTS EXPANDED ACCESS TO THE SPORT OF SAILING WITH A GRANT TO THE BAY AREA ASSOCIATION OF DISABLED SAILORS TO SUPPORT PARTICIPATION IN NATIONAL COMPETITIVE RACES.
