THE LAB GIVES SIGNIFICANT FUNDING, TIME, AND SPACE TO TRADITIONALLY UNDERREPRESENTED ARTISTS. WE SEEK TO TRANSFORM ALONGSIDE ARTISTIC PRACTICES IN ORDER TO ENGAGE MEANINGFULLY WITH VISIONARY COMMUNITIES WHOSE ECONOMIC AND CULTURAL REALITIES HAVE BEEN IGNORED FOR TOO LONG, TO THE IMPOVERISHMENT OF US ALL. IN THIS, THE LAB IS CATALYST FOR ARTISTIC EXPERIMENTATION.

IN 2022-23, THE LAB PRESENTED 35 PROGRAMS, PAYING A TOTAL OF 182 ARTISTS OVER THE COURSE OF 89 PROJECTS REACHING 6,111 AUDIENCE MEMBERS. HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDED THE COMMISSIONING OF ASHER HARTMAN'S "IT'S BETTER TO START OUT UGLY," THE EXPANDED CINEMA-ORIENTED LIGHT FIELD FILM FESTIVAL, A COLLABORATION WITH WATTIS AT THE CALIFORNIA COLLEGE OF THE ARTS FOR "DRUM LISTENS TO HEART, AND RESIDENCIES WITH MOOR MOTHER AND LEGENDARY GOSPEL-INDUSTRIAL BAND ONO.
