NIA HOUSE'S MISSION IS TO BRING TOGETHER CHILDREN FROM DIFFERENT SOCIOECONOMIC BACKGROUNDS TO GROW AND WORK IN HARMONY AND COOPERATION, AND TO ACTIVELY WORK TOWARD ALL OF DR. MARIA MONTESSORI'S CONCEPTS, ESPECIALLY THAT OF PEACE THROUGH EDUCATION.

NIA HOUSE LEARNING CENTER PROVIDED FULL-DAY, YEAR-ROUND MONTESSORI EDUCATION TO 90 CHILDREN BETWEEN THE AGES OF 18 MONTHS AND 6 YEARS OLD. OF THESE FAMILIES, MORE THAN 42% RECEIVED FINANCIAL AID IN THE TOTAL ANNUAL AMOUNT OF OVER $433,000 OF TUITION REMISSION. ADDITIONALLY, DURING THE 2021-22 SCHOOL YEAR, NIA HOUSE RESUMED INCREASED ENROLLMENT FOR CHILDREN, POST COVID-19 REQUIRED ENROLLMENT REDUCTIONS. NIA HOUSE ADJUSTED PROGRAMMING TO MEET INCREASED HEALTH AND SAFETY NEEDS OF CHILDREN, WITH INCREASED SCHOOL VENTILATION, INCREASED HANDWASHING WITH NEWLY INSTALLED OUTDOOR HANDWASHING SINKS IN ALL OUTDOOR AREAS, INCREASED COVERED OUTDOOR SPACE FOR OUTDOOR CLASSROOM USAGE. THE PROGRAM'S INCREASED HEALTH AND SAFETY INCLUDED A MAJOR SCHOOL-YARD RENOVATION THAT IMPROVED THE SITE DRAINAGE, INCREASED GARDENING AREAS, AND INCREASED THE EFFICIENCY AND USAGE OF THE PLAYGROUND AND OUTDOOR LEARNING SPACES. THOUGH THIS PROJECT WAS NOT FULLY COMPLETE BY 6.30.22, IT WAS IN PROGRESS WITH SUBSTANTIAL IMPROVEMENTS UNDERWAY.
