WE HOLD AN ANNUAL EVENT IN CENTRAL OREGON EAST OF PRINEVILLE, OR. THIS EVENT PROVIDES AN OPPORTUNITY FOR AMATEUR ASTRONOMERS TO GATHER IN A DARK SITE LOCATION. WITH INCREASING AMOUNTS OF LIGHT POLLUTION, IT IS BECOMING MORE DIFFICULT TO SEE THE NIGHT SKY. MOST METROPOLITAN AREAS HAVE SO MUCH LIGHT POLLUTION THAT THIS TYPE OF OBSERVING IS NOT AVAILABLE. THERE ARE DAYTIME ACTIVITIES SUCH AS SPEAKERS, TELESCOPE WALKABOUTS, YOUTH ACTIVITIES, AS WELL AS THE MAIN ACTIVITY OF OBSERVING THROUGH SOME TYPE OF ASTRONOMICAL INSTRUMENT. WE OPERATE UNDER A US FOREST SERVICE PERMIT ON TOTALLY UNIMPROVED LANDS. WE BRING IN 100% OF ALL FACILITIES SUCH AS OUR ACTIVITIES TENT, REGISTRATION TENT, SHOWER FACILITIES, PORTABLE TOILETS. THIS YEAR, WE WERE UNABLE TO HOLD OUR EVENT DUE TO THE FOREST SERVICE HAS OUR ACCESS ROAD CLOSED SO WE HAD NO ACCESS TO THE SITE & CANCELLATION OF OUR PERMIT BY THE US FOREST SERVICE BUT IN PRIOR YEARS HAVE HAD 500 TO 750 REGISTRATION FROM ALL OVER THE PACIFIC NW AS WELL AS THE REST OF THE COUNTRY.
