THE ALASKA BOTANICAL GARDEN (ABG) IS A NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION DEDICATED TO EDUCATION, SCIENCE, AND RESEARCH. ABG IS A NORTHERN LATITUDE, ORGANICALLY MAINTAINED BOTANICAL GARDEN WITH DISPLAY GARDENS, INTERPRETIVE NATURE TRAILS, EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS FOR YOUTH AND ADULTS, RECREATIONAL EVENTS AND A RESEARCH PROGRAM. PROFESSIONAL HORTICULTURISTS MAINTAIN A PERMANENT PLANT COLLECTION USING AN ACCESSION DATA MANAGEMENT SYSTEM. PROFESSIONAL EDUCATORS IMPLEMENT AN INTENSIVE, YEAR-LONG, AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAM USING NUTRITION, BOTANY AND HORTICULTURE TO TEACH STEM TO LOW-INCOME ANCHORAGE SCHOOL DISTRICT STUDENTS IN EXTENSIVE IN-SCHOOL AND FIELD TRIP PROGRAMMING, ABG ALSO TEACHES ADULT LEARNERS THROUGH WORKSHOPS AND COURSES OFFERED THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. ABG SUPPORTS A VISITOR PROGRAM REACHING AN ESTIMATED 35,000 VISITORS ANNUALLY. IN ADDITION, ABG COLLABORATES WITH PARTNERS ON REGIONALLY APPROPRIATE RESEARCH PROJECTS TO FURTHER BOTANICAL KNOWLEDGE AND INFORM BEST PRACTICES IN GARDENING. LASTLY, THE ALASKA BOTANICAL GARDEN HOSTS RECREATIONAL EVENTS DESIGNED TO INTRIGUE ANCHORAGE RESIDENTS AND VISITORS TO THE GARDEN, ITS MISSION, AND PROGRAMS.
