TO CARRY OUT OUR MISSION STATEMENT BELOW WE UNDERTAKE THE FOLLOWING ACTIVITIES: 1)OPERATE A USED BOOKSTORE WITH DONATED LABOR AND BOOKS 2)PROVIDE FUNDS FOR LIBRARY PROGRAMS, SERVICES AND FACILITY NEEDS 3)MAINTAIN A MEMBERSHIP ASSOCIATION WITH WEBSITE CONNECTING THE COMMUNITY TO THE LIBRARIES.

USED BOOKS ARE DONATED BY MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY. THESE BOOKS ARE SOLD AT A NOMINAL PRICE IN THE STORE OPERATED BY ORGANIZATION. ALL VOLUNTEER LABOR IS USED WITH ABOUT 60 INDIVIDUALS GIVING THREE TO TWENTY HOURS PER WEEK. THE STORE IS OPEN YEAR-ROUND AND PROCEEDS ARE USED TO BENEFIT THE JUNEAU PUBLIC LIBRARY, (320,000 ESTIMATED BOOKS SOLD OR RECYCLED). BOOKS ARE ALSO GIVEN FOR FREE TO OTHER COMMUNITIES AND LOCAL COMMUNITY CENTERS.


ADULT PROGRAMMING AND OUTREACH WAS ACCOMPLISHED WITH FUNDING FOR SUPPLIES, ADVERTISING COSTS, AND PRIZES FOR AUTHOR TALKS, THEATER PRODUCTIONS, VIEWING OF WOMEN'S WORLD CUP, TRAILBLAZERS BOOK CLUB, SUMMER AND WINTER READING CHALLENGES FOR ADULTS, SCAVENGER HUNTS, AS WELL AS REOPENING RECEPTIONS FOLLOWING FLOOD, PRIDE POETRY READING, DROP-IN CHESS AND A TOURNAMENT, RUBIK'S CUBE CHALLENGE, AND MONTHLY GAME DAYS, CREATIVE WRITING WORKSHOPS, AND A WILLS PROGRAM AND A PRESENTATION ON SELECTIVE SALMON FISHERIES. FUNDING ALSO SUPPORTED OUTREACH PROGRAMS THAT ENABLED THE LIBRARY TO GO OUT INTO THE COMMUNITY SUCH AS SPONSORSHIP FOR ALASKA MINICON, REGISTRATION FOR TABLES AT COMMUNITY EVENTS, AND AT ALL-ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STEAM EVENT.


THE YOUTH SERVICES, TODDLER AND LAP STORY TIMES AND SUMMER READING PROGRAM AT THE JUNEAU PUBLIC LIBRARIES ARE SUPPORTED BY PROVIDING FUNDING FOR CONTESTS, ACTIVITIES, PRIZES AND PUBLICITY OF EVENTS. YOUTH SERVICES THIS YEAR ALSO INCLUDE AGE AND GENDER RELATED BOOK GROUPS, AND A PRESCHOOL FAMILY FUN NIGHT PROGRAM. ALSO SPONSOR AN ANNUAL BOOKMARK AWARD FOR SCHOOL AGE CHILDREN.
