TO RESTORE, MAINTAIN, AND PROTECT THE SAUSAL CREEK WATERSHED.

FIELD PROGRAMS & NURSERY:IN THE 2021-22 FISCAL YEAR, FOSC LED 38 HANDS-ON FIELD TRIPS OR RESTORATION WORKDAYS FOR STUDENTS/YOUTH, 92 NURSERY WORKDAYS/SEED HIKES AND SUPPORTED 167RESTORATION WORKDAYS. EVEN DURING THE PANDEMIC, THERE WERE OVER 1,836 VOLUNTEERSVISITS, VOLUNTEERS DEDICATED 6,121 SERVICE HOURS TO THE COMMUNITY AND THE CREEK,PROPAGATING AND PLANTING 1,847 NATIVE PLANTS IN THE WATERSHED. THE FIELD PROGRAMSINCLUDE THE RESTORATION OF 20+ SITES THROUGHOUT THE WATERSHED. RESTORATION EFFORTS INCLUDE THE REMOVAL OF INVASIVE, NONNATIVE PLANTS; NATIVE SPECIES PLANTING; TRASH AND GRAFFITI REMOVAL, AND TRAIL MAINTENANCE. NATIVE PLANTS ARE GROWN AT THE FOSC NATIVE PLANT NURSERY IN JOAQUIN MILLER PARK FROM PROPAGULES COLLECTED IN THE WATERSHED. FREQUENT MONITORING OF BIRDS, WATER QUALITY, THE ENDANGERED PALLIDMANZANITA, AND BENTHIC MACROINVERTEBRATES OBSERVATIONS SUPPORT OUR RESTORATION SUCCESS.


OUTREACH & EDUCATION PROGRAM:THE OUTREACH AND EDUCATION PROGRAM INCLUDES DISTRIBUTION OF A MONTHLY NEWSLETTER, BI-MONTHLY PUBLIC MEETINGS, WEBSITE MAINTENANCE, AND PRESENCE AT CONFERENCES, STREET FAIRS, AND OTHER PUBLIC EVENTS. OUR NEWSLETTER HAS A CIRCULATION OF 3,804 EMAIL ADDRESSES. WE ALSO HAVE A LISTSERV WITH 774 MEMBERS AND 1,066 INSTAGRAM FOLLOWERS. FLYERS AND EDUCATIONAL SIGNAGE ARE THROUGHOUT THE WATERSHED. WE MAINTAIN TWO EDUCATIONAL NATIVE PLANT DEMONSTRATION GARDENS. WE CONTINUED TO EXPAND OUTREACH IN THE FRUITVALE NEIGHBORHOOD AND ENGAGED THE COMMUNITY IN IDENTIFYING WATER, PARK AND OPEN SPACE PROJECTS (SEE THE SAUSAL CREEK WALKABLE WATERSHED CONCEPT PLAN).
