Describe the Organization's Mission:

Part 3 - Line 1

TO PROVIDE OPPORTUNITIES FOR ECONOMIC, EDUCATIONAL, AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT IN AFGHANISTAN.

Describe the Organization's Program Activity:

Part 3 - Line 4a

OUR MISSION HAS BEEN TO GIVE EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANCE TO THE CHILDREN OF AFGHANISTAN BY PROVIDING EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS THROUGH THE HOPE SCHOOL. SEVERAL CLASSROOMS WERE BUILT IN 2003, FOLLOWED BY MAJOR CONSTRUCTION OF A MODERN SCHOOL IN 2013. THE FIRST HIGH SCHOOL CLASS GRADUATED IN 2014. NEW CLASSROOMS WERE COMPLETED IN 2018. IN 2020, AFGHANISTAN WAS ESPECIALLY HARD HIT BY COVID-19, SO THE SCHOOL HAD TO CLOSE FOR MOST OF THE YEAR. THE ORGANIZATION WAS BEGINNING TO MAKE A RECOVERY DURING 2021, BUT THE TAKE-OVER OF THE TALIBAN REGIME IN AUGUST 2021 SEVERELY LIMITED THE SCHOOL'S OPERATIONS. GIRLS ARE NOW FORBIDDEN TO ATTEND THE SCHOOL, AND THE FEMALE STAFF OF THE SCHOOL ARE NOT ALLOWED TO ATTEND TO THEIR DUTIES. BECAUSE HOPE SCHOOL DEPENDS ON POLITICAL AND ECONOMIC STABILITY TO FUNCTION, MANY OF OUR STUDENTS HAVE LEFT. GOING FORWARD, GREATLY INCREASED DONOR FUNDING WILL BE NECESSARY TO ALLOW THE SCHOOL TO SURVIVE IN AFGHANISTAN.

WE HAVE WORKED TO PROVIDE AGRICULTURAL DEVELOPMENT ASSISTANCE TO THE PEOPLE OF AFGHANISTAN BY CREATING AND DEVELOPING PROGRAMS TO ERADICATE DEVELOPMENT OF POPPY CULTIVATION. WE HAVE PROVIDED DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS FOR AGRICULTURE, TRAINING, AND ALTERNATIVE LIVELIHOODS BY WORKING WITH LOCAL FARMERS TO CREATE SELF SUFFICIENT ECONOMIC PROGRAMS. UNDER THE TALIBAN REGIME IN 2021, UNEMPLOYMENT AND ECONOMIC CRISES LIMITED THE PURCHASING POWER OF AFGHANS WHICH, IN TURN, SIGNIFICANTLY DECREASED NURSERY PLANT SALES. INFLATION AND A SHORTAGE OF AGRICULTURAL INPUTS SUCH AS FERTILIZERS HAVE SHARPLY INCREASED OPERATING COSTS.
