THE CENTER IS COMMITTED TO ASSISTING BLIND AND VISUALLY IMPAIRED PERSONS TO ACHIEVE THE FULLEST DEVELOPMENT AND UTILIZATION OF THEIR CAPACITIES AND INTEGRATION INTO THE SOCIAL, ECONOMIC AND CULTURAL LIFE OF THE COMMUNITY.

THOSE WHO ARE BLIND AND VISUALLY IMPAIRED CAN RECEIVE INDEPENDENT LIVING SERVICES FROM THE CENTER. ANY PERSON UNABLE TO PARTICIPATE IN NORMAL ACTIVITIES OF DAILY LIVING BECAUSE OF HIS OR HER LOSS OF SIGHT CAN CALL ON OUR INDEPENDENT LIVING PROGRAM FOR HELP.OUR INDEPENDENT LIVING SPECIALIST WILL CALL AND MAKE AN APPOINTMENT TO VISIT THE PERSON IN NEED IN THEIR HOME. SHE WILL MARK APPLIANCES FOR THE PERSON TO OPERATE SAFELY, SEE WHAT MAGNIFICATION OF LENSES MAY BE NEEDED AND EXPLAIN FREE SERVICES AVAILABLE TO THE INDIVIDUAL. IN ADDITION SHE WILL ASSIST IN ANY WAY POSSIBLE TO MAKE THE PERSON MORE SELF SUFFICIENT. A TOTAL OF 86 CLIENTS WERE SERVED DURING THE YEAR.FUNDING FOR THIS PROGRAM IS PROVIDED ENTIRELY BY A GRANT FOM THE WASHINGTON STATE DEPARTMENT OF SERVICES FOR THE BLIND.
OPERATE LOW VISION CLINIC WITH SPECIALIZED TESTING FOR VISUALLY IMPAIRED, COMPUTER TRAINING FOR VISUALLY IMPAIRED AND BLIND, INFORMATIONAL AND SUPPORT MEETINGS REGARDING EYE DISEASES. A TOTAL OF 78 PEOPLE WERE SERVED IN THE LOW VISION CLINIC DURING THE YEAR.IN ADDITION OVER 345 INDIVIDUALS WERE SOLD OR PROVIDED LOW VISION AIDS AND DEVICES AND 35 VIDEO MAGNIFIERS WERE LOANED TO INDIVIDUALS IN ADDITION 44 CCTV UNITS WERE RENTED TO VISUALLY IMPAIRED INDIVIDUALS DURING THE YEAR.
