FREEDOM FARMS CONDUCTED AN RFP THAT RESULTED IN A COHORT OF 13 GRANTEE ORGANIZATIONS RECEIVING $780,000 IN FUNDING TO ESTABLISH AND EXPAND URBAN FARMS; LAUNCHED A PILOT YOUTHBUILD GROWERS PROGRAM TEACHING HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS ABOUT GARDENING AND THE OUTDOORS; INVESTED IN DEVELOPMENT OF A GROCERY STORE IN THE HISTORICAL AND FOOD INSECURE NEIGHBORHOOD OF LEIMERT PARK, SET TO OPEN NOVEMBER 2024.
RESOURCE CONNECTION EVENTS COLLABORATED WITH IT'S BIGGER THAN US TO: SPONSOR THEIR BACK 2 SCHOOL FESTIVAL REACHING 8,000 COMMUNITY MEMBERS AND SUPPORTED REFURBISHMENT OF CRENSHAW HIGH SCHOOL'S BASKETBALL COURT, AS WELL AS SPONSOR A HOLIDAY TOY GIVEAWAY FOR 300 STUDENTS AT HILLCREST ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. PARTNERED WITH COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS TO EXPAND AWARENESS REGARDING URBAN FARMING, READING LITERACY AND WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT.
PROJECT JUBILEE CONDUCTED A SECOND COHORT OF PAID WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT AND WELLNESS SUPPORT WITH 30 TRANSITION AGED YOUTH WHO TRAINED IN THE FIELDS OF PROPERTY MANAGEMENT, URBAN FARMING, OR FOOD SERVICE/BARISTA, AND RESULTED IN AN IMPRESSIVE 92% GRADUATION RATE.
