RESEARCH OF CASE LAW THAT GOVERNS THE OBLIGATIONS THAT FIDUCIARIES (PARTICULARLY DOCTORS AND LAWYERS) HAVE TO THEIR PRINCIPALS (PATIENTS AND CLIENTS). WE VISIT AND/OR EMAIL LAW LIBRARIES AND COURT CLERKS ACROSS THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA TO ACQUIRE COPIES OF COURT OPINIONS AND BRIEFS, WHICH WE THEN DISSECT. WE HAVE ALSO BEEN MASTERING THE CALIFORNIA CODES, RULES, AND STATUTES RELATED TO FIDUCIARIES' OBLIGATIONS AND PRINCIPALS' RIGHTS. THIS ACTIVITY ALSO INCLUDES DISCUSSIONS WITH ATTORNEYS WHO SPECIALIZE IN PROFESSIONAL LIABILITY AND ETHICS.
THE DEVELOPMENT OF A GUIDE TITLED, "POWER TO THE PATIENT: PROACTIVE PRIMER FOR HOSPITAL PATIENTS AND THEIR ADVOCATES", DESIGNED TO EDUCATE PATIENTS (PARTICULARLY THOSE FACING THE PROSPECT OF END-OF-LIFE CARE) ABOUT THEIR RIGHTS AND LEGAL AUTHORITY. THIS INCLUDES DRAFTING A SAMPLE LEGAL CONTRACT THAT CAN SERVE AS AN ALTERNATIVE TO THE OFT-USED "ADVANCE DIRECTIVE", TITLED "PROACTIVE DIRECTIVE: POWER OF ATTORNEY FOR HEALTH CARE AND ADVANCE HEALTH CARE DIRECTIVE".
