2023 EDUCATORS CONFERENCE: ON SAT. FEBRUARY 25, 2023 FROM 9A-2P, TEACH INDY BROUGHT TOGETHER 123 ASPIRING AND CURRENT CLASSROOM TEACHERS AND LEADERS TOGETHER FOR OUR FIRST IN-PERSON CONFERENCE. OUR OBJECTIVES WAS TO PRESENT PROSPECTIVE AND CURRENT EDUCATORS WITH A VALUABLE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITY TO A) IDENTIFY VALUABLE STRATEGIES TO IMPLEMENT IN THEIR CLASSROOMS TO SUPPORT STUDENT LEARNING, MOST ESPECIALLY ENGLISH LEARNERS AND STUDENTS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS, B) PROVIDE A SPACE TO HEAR DIRECTLY FROM EDUCATORS HOW THEY ARE SUPPORTING STUDENTS, AND C) TO SUPPORT TEACHERS TO MAKE MEANINGFUL CONNECTIONS WITH EACH OTHER AND FEEL SUPPORTED. WE WERE ABLE TO PROVIDE 9 BREAKOUT SESSIONS AND 2 KEYNOTE SPEAKERS CENTERED ON THE TOPICS IN THE OBJECTIVES AND ALL SESSIONS WERE LED BY CURRENT EDUCATORS. A TOTAL OF 615 PROFESSIONAL GROWTH POINT (PGP) HOURS WERE PROVIDED TOWARDS EDUCATOR LICENSE RENEWALS AND 14 EDUCATORS WALKED AWAY WITH GIFTS/PRIZES FOR THEIR ENGAGEMENT.
NEW TEACHER PROGRAM: OVER THE COURSE OF THE YEAR, WE HOSTED 4 EVENTS TO MAKE CONTACT WITH EARLY CAREER EDUCATORS IN THEIR FIRST TWO YEARS OF TEACHING. THE GOALS OF THIS PROGRAM WERE TO A) OFFER HIGH-QUALITY PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SESSIONS CATERED TO EARLY CAREER EDUCATORS, B) TO DEVELOP COMMUNITY AMONG EARLY CAREER EDUCATORS AND C) CREATE ACCESS TO COMMUNITY EVENTS NOT TYPICALLY AFFORDABLE TO EDUCATORS. 195 EDUCATORS ATTENDED THE EVENTS OUTLINED AS FOLLOWED. EVENT 1- OCT. 2, 2022 WITH TRAINING BY BUTLER UNIVERSITY FOCUSED MULTI-TIERED STUDENT SUPPORTS AND FAMILY ENGAGEMENT. COMMUNITY EVENT AT THE INDIANAPOLIS COLTS. EVENT 2- DEC. 3, 2022 WITH TRAINING BY UNIVERSITY OF INDIANAPOLIS FOCUSED ON ASSESSMENTS THAT SUPPORT STUDENT LEARNING. COMMUNITY EVENT AT THE BIG 10 CHAMPIONSHIP FAN FEST. EVENT 3- MAR. 18, 2023 WITH TRAINING BY MARIAN UNIVERSITY FOCUSED ON SCIENCE OF READING. COMMUNITY EVENT AT FOWLING WAREHOUSE. EVENT 4- MAY 20, 2023 TEACHER APPRECIATION DAY AT THE INDIANAPOLIS INDIANS.
TEACHING IN INDY RECRUITMENT EVENTS: WE HOSTED A TOTAL OF 2 EVENTS TO RECRUIT ADDITIONAL EDUCATORS INTO INDIANAPOLIS SCHOOLS. ON FEB. 8, 2023, IN PARTNERSHIP WITH TEACH FOR AMERICA, TNTP'S INDIANAPOLIS TEACHING FELLOWS, AND EDUCATE ME FOUNDATION, WE ENGAGED PROSPECTIVE EDUCATORS AT 16-BIT TO DISCUSS TEACHING OPTIONS AS WELL AS PREPARATION PROGRAMS TOWARDS LICENSURE. A TOTAL OF 10 PROSPECTIVE EDUCATORS ATTENDED THIS EVENT. FOLLOWING THIS EVENT, WE HOSTED A VIRTUAL HIRING FAIR ON APR. 6, 2023 FOR PRINCIPALS TO INTERVIEW PROSPECTIVE EDUCATORS DIRECTLY. A TOTAL OF 20 PROSPECTIVE EDUCATORS ATTENDED THIS EVENT AND/OR SUBMITTED A RESUME TO BE SHARED WITH SCHOOL LEADERS AND A TOTAL OF 16 SCHOOLS PARTICIPATED IN INTERVIEWING CANDIDATES.
