TO TRANSFORM THE LIVES OF CHILDREN AGES 4-12 THROUGH TUITION-FREE, BILINGUAL MUSIC-EDUCATION, AND PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES WHICH ENGAGE RESIDENTS, BUILD COMMUNITIES, AND CELEBRATE THE RICH CULTURAL IDENTITY OF SEGUNDO BARRIO/EAST END DISTRICT IN HOUSTON.

SEGUNDO BARRIO CHILDRENS CHORUS TARGETS CHILDREN FROM SOME OF THE MOST UNDERSERVED NEIGHBORHOODS IN SECOND WARD AND GREATER EAST END HOUSTON, OFFERING MUSICAL INSTRUCTION AND BI-LINGUAL PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES BASED ON MUSIC FROM THE FOLK, CLASSICAL, INDIGENOUS, AND POPULAR TRADITIONS, FOR STUDENTS AGES 8-12, AS WELL AS AN EARLY CHILDHOOD IMMERSION PROGRAM FOR CHILDREN AGES 4-7. OUR THREE MISSION PILLARS - IMMIGRANT INCLUSION, CULTURAL PRESERVATION & CREATIVE YOUTH DEVELOPMENT- ARE AIMED AT KEEPING CHILDREN OFF THE STREETS AND ENGAGED IN THE ARTS, WHILE ALSO REDUCING DROP-OUT RATES AND INCREASING OVERALL ACADEMIC-OUTCOMES.
