Describe the Organization's Mission:
Part 3 - Line 1
TO RESEARCH NEW TECHNOLOGIES AND INNOVATIVE FINANCIAL MODELS TO STIMULATE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT IN ECONOMICALLY DEPRESSED, HIGH-DENSITY AREAS INHABITED MAINLY BY LOW-INCOME MINORITY OR OTHER DISADVANTAGED GROUPS TO PROVIDE MORE JUST OUTCOMES FOR THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN LEFT BEHIND BY THE LEGACY OF FINANCIAL AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
WE BEGAN OUR OUTREACH AND EDUCATION WITH A SMALL SERIES OF OPEN WORKSHOPS FOR OAKLAND RESIDENTS TO ATTEND AND LEARN MORE ABOUT ALTERNATIVE FINANCE, SELF-SOVEREIGNTY, AND MUTUAL AID. CITY3 THEN PARTICIPATED IN AND FACILITATED SEVERAL LARGE-SCALE EVENTS IN 2022 THAT SHARED INFORMATION ABOUT AND EXAMPLES OF ALTERNATIVE ECONOMIC ORGANIZATION AND COMMUNITY COMMERCE REWARDS. CITY3 ESTIMATES THAT IN Q4 2022 ALONE WE REACHED OVER 7,000 OAKLAND RESIDENTS WITH MESSAGING ABOUT MORE REGENERATIVE ECONOMIC MODELS AND THAT OVER 1,000 OF THOSE RESIDENTS TOOK ADDITIONAL STEPS TO LEARN MORE AND PARTICIPATE IN REGENERATIVE COMMERCE EXPERIMENTS. THESE NUMBERS WERE INCREDIBLY GRATIFYING AND DEMONSTRATED THE POPULAR INTEREST IN CITY3'S VISION AND VALUES.
CITY3 LED A PILOT COMMUNITY-DIRECTED QUADRATIC FUNDING MATCHING GRANT PROGRAM, IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE OAKLAND FUND FOR PUBLIC INNOVATION. THAT GRANT ROUND ENGAGED OVER 240 UNIQUE PARTICIPANTS, PROVIDED FUNDS TO 7 OAKLAND ORGANIZATIONS, AND HELPED THOSE ORGANIZATIONS DEVELOP NEW AUDIENCES OF COMMUNITY SUPPORTERS. THIS WORK ALSO GREW A NETWORK OF 1,500 LOCAL RESIDENTS, WITH 71% BIPOC REPRESENTATION, WHO ARE INTERESTED IN SUPPORTING FUTURE COMMUNITY ACTIVATIONS. THIS PILOT PROGRAM DEVELOPED CITY3'S UNDERSTANDING OF COMMUNITY FUNDING MODELS AND OBSTACLES TO THEIR DEVELOPMENT.
