TO CONNECT INSPIRING STORYTELLING AND MEANINGFUL CHANGE BY PROVIDING FUNDS AND OTHER RESOURCES TO DOCUMENTARIES THAT HIGHLIGHT SOCIAL ISSUES AND BY AWARDING CORRESPONDING GRANTS TO NONPROFITS TACKLING THE FEATURED TOPICS.

Describe the Organization's Program Activity:

Part 3 - Line 4a

IN SUBJECT MATTER'S SECOND YEAR, WE EXPANDED OUR AUDIENCE REACH THROUGH STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIPS WITH FILM FESTIVALS. WE WORKED WITH FESTIVAL PROGRAMMERS TO IDENTIFY DOCUMENTARIES IN THEIR PROGRAMS THAT HIGHLIGHT URGENT SOCIAL ISSUES. THEN OUR SELECTION COMMITTEE SELECTED FESTIVAL FILMS TO RECEIVE GRANTS TO SUPPORT THEIR IMPACT AND OUTREACH EFFORTS. NEXT, WE IDENTIFIED NONPROFITS THAT HAVE BEEN WORKING ON THE ISSUE FEATURED IN THE FILMS AND WE AWARDED THE ORGANIZATIONS CORRESPONDING GRANTS TO SUPPORT THEIR WORK ON THE GROUND. AT THE FESTIVALS, WE HELPED RAISE AWARENESS FOR THE FILMS, ACKNOWLEDGED THE PARTICIPANTS WHO GENEROUSLY SHARED THEIR STORIES, AND IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE SCREENINGS WE INVITED INSPIRED AUDIENCES TO JOIN US IN DONATING TO THE NONPROFIT GRANTEES TO CREATE A POSITIVE COMMUNITY ACTION IN RESPONSE TO THE FILMS. WE PARTICIPATED IN TEN SCREENING EVENTS, INCLUDING TWO FOR INAUGURAL GRANTEES AND TOGETHER WITH AUDIENCES, WE AWARDED OVER $152K IN GRANTS TO THE FILMS AND NONPROFITS. THE SUBJECT AREAS BEING ADDRESSED BY OUR 2023 GRANTEES INCLUDE PROTECTING THE HUMAN RIGHTS AND DIGNITY OF PEOPLE BORN WITH INTERSEX TRAITS; REPRESENTATION AND DIVERSITY IN MAINSTREAM MEDIA COVERAGE; AND PREVENTING VIOLENCE, ISLAMOPHOBIA, AND HATE CRIMES.
