Part 3 - Line 4a
EDUCATION- WOMEN VETERANS GALA: WOMEN VETERANS OF GEORGIA CELEBRATING 75 YEARS OF COURAGE. ON JUNE 12, 1948, PRESIDENT TRUMAN SIGNED THE WOMEN'S ARMED SERVICES INTEGRATION ACT INTO LAW. THIS WAS A TRULY GROUNDBREAKING PIECE OF LEGISLATION FOR AMERICA'S MILITARY WOMEN, AS IT GRANTED THEM A PERMANENT PLACE AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR CAREERS IN THE NATION'S MILITARY. THIS YEAR MARKS THE 75TH ANNIVERSARY OF WOMEN OFFICIALLY SERVING OUR COUNTRY IN THE ARMED FORCES. THE GEORGIA DEPARTMENT OF VETERANS SERVICE HELD A GALA ON JUNE 10, 2023, TO RECOGNIZE AND CELEBRATE THE BRAVERY, COMMITMENT, AND WILLINGNESS OF WOMEN TO SERVE. THE GEORGIA VETERANS SERVICE FOUNDATION SUPPORTED THIS FUNCTION AS AN EDUCATION OPPORTUNITY FOR VETERANS WHO WERE UNAWARE OF ALL THE CONTRIBUTIONS GEORGIA WOMEN VETERANS HAVE MADE OVER THE YEARS. 89 GEORGIA WOMEN VETERANS WERE IN ATTENDANCE.
HOUSING-THE FOUNDATION RECEIVED A DONATION OF $2500 FROM JIM N NICKS MANAGEMENT LLC, TIN 47-1361551 WITH THE INTENTION THAT WE DONATE THE FUNDS TO A NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION THAT ASSISTS PEOPLE IN NEED IN ATHENS, GEORGIA. WE DO THIS THROUGH TWO PROGRAMS: THE OVERNIGHT SHELTER PROGRAM THAT ADDRESSES OUR GUESTS' IMMEDIATE NEEDS AND THE ABUNDANT LIFE PROGRAM THAT ADDRESSES OUR GUESTS' FUTURE GOALS. IN THE OVERNIGHT SHELTER PROGRAM, WE ASSIST OUR GUESTS BY PROVIDING A SAFE AND COMFORTABLE LOW-BARRIER SHELTER, IN ADDITION TO PROVIDING FOOD, SHOWERS, LAUNDRY, AND OTHER BASIC NECESSITIES (E.G. TOOTHBRUSHES, SOCKS, HAND WARMERS, BLANKETS, ETC.) AS REQUESTED. TYPICALLY, WE ARE ABLE TO SHELTER 34 ADULTS EACH NIGHT (FIVE BEING DEDICATED TO THE ABUNDANT LIFE PROGRAM), BUT DUE TO COVID-19, WE HAVE ADJUSTED OUR CAPACITY TO ALLOW FOR APPROPRIATE DISTANCING BETWEEN BEDS. IN ADDITION TO MEETING THE IMMEDIATE NEEDS OF OUR COMMUNITY MEMBERS EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS, WE ALSO ASSIST OUR GUESTS IN MOVING OUT OF HOMELESSNESS THROUGH OUR ABUNDANT LIFE PROGRAM. THE ABUNDANT LIFE PROGRAM GUARANTEES ALL OF THE BENEFITS OF THE OVERNIGHT SHELTER PROGRAM IN ADDITION TO PERSONALIZED CASE MANAGEMENT FOR GUESTS WHILE ENROLLED IN AN EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM OR FULL-TIME EMPLOYMENT.
