HEALTH - OASIS ROCHESTER FOCUSES ON INCREASING AWARENESS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS FOR OLDER ADULTS TO ADDRESS THEIR INDIVIDUAL HEALTH AND WELLNESS NEEDS. THE CLASSES EMPHASIZE CURRENT RESEARCH ON AGING, FALLS PREVENTION, PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES AND EXERCISE, AS WELL AS OTHER HEALTH ISSUES FACING OLDER ADULTS. IN 2021, OASIS ROCHESTER BEGAN THE YEAR BY PIVOTING TO OFFERING ONLINE EXERCISE CLASSES THROUGH THE ZOOM ONLINE PLATFORM TO PEOPLE AT HOME. BY FALL 2021, MANY EXERCISE CLASSES RETURNED TO IN-PERSON LEARNING. IN 2022, OASIS ROCHESTER OFFERED EXERCISE AND HEALTH RELATED CLASSES VIA IN PERSON, ZOOM AND HYBRID MEANS.
TECHNOLOGY LITERACY - OASIS ROCHESTER PROVIDES A VARIETY OF TECHNOLOGY CLASSES FOR ITS PARTICIPANTS TO ASSIST OLDER ADULTS IMPROVE THEIR TECHNOLOGY LITERACY. THIS EVIDENCE-BASED CONNECTIONS CURRICULUM, DEVELOPED AND UPDATED ON AN ON-GOING BASIS BY THE OASIS INSTITUTE, INCLUDES TOPICS SUCH AS ANDROID AND IPHONE BASICS AND INTERMEDIATE PHONE SKILLS AND CYBERCRIME FIGHTERS, WHICH PROVIDES INFORMATION ON SCAMS, PHISHING AND PASSWORD PROTECTION.
EDUCATION - OASIS ROCHESTER OFFERS COURSES AND PRESENTATIONS ACROSS A WIDE RANGE OF SUBJECTS, INCLUDING THE ARTS, SCIENCE, HUMANITIES, WELLNESS/HEALTH, MUSICAL PERFORMANCES, AS WELL AS DAY TRIPS. DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC WHICH CONTINUED IN 2021, MOST OFF-SITE OFFERINGS, MUSICAL PERFORMANCES, AND DAY TRIPS WERE LIMITED. MOST EDUCATIONAL OFFERINGS WERE PROVIDED USING THE ZOOM PLATFORM FOR MOST OF 2021. OASIS ROCHESTER SCHEDULES APPROXIMATELY 70-120 EDIFYING TOPICS EACH TRIMESTER THAT ARE TAUGHT BY QUALIFIED ACADEMIC AND PROFESSIONAL INSTRUCTORS. IN 2022, OASIS ROCHESTER OFFERED APPROXIMATELY 289 CLASSES AND ENROLLED 702 UNIQUE PARTICIPANTS.
VOLUNTEER SERVICE - OASIS ROCHESTER WORKS WITH THE GREECE AND CHURCHVILLE CHILI CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICTS TO OFFER THE OASIS INTERGENERATIONAL TUTORING PROGRAM. THIS PROGRAM TRAINS AND MATCHES VOLUNTEER TUTORS WITH PRIMARY GRADE CHILDREN (K-4) TO BUILD READING SKILLS, CONFIDENCE AND POSITIVE ATTITUDES TOWARD LEARNING.VOLUNTEERS ALSO ASSIST IN RUNNING THE EDUCATION CENTER, REGISTERING CLASS PARTICIPANTS, DISTRIBUTING CATALOGS, AND ASSISTING WITH SPECIAL EVENTS AND TEACHING CLASSES.IN 2022, 59% OF CLASSES WERE TAUGHT BY VOLUNTEERS, WITH 5 VOLUNTEERS ASSISTING IN THE EDUCATION CENTER.
