FOUNDED IN 2004 BY ACADEMY AWARD WINNING ACTOR GEENA DAVIS, THE INSTITUTE IS THE ONLY GLOBAL RESEARCH-BASED ORGANIZATION WORKING COLLABORATIVELY WITHIN THE ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY TO CREATE GENDER BALANCE, FOSTER INCLUSION AND IMPEDE NEGATIVE STEREOTYPING IN FAMILY ENTERTAINMENT MEDIA.THE INSTITUTE USES DATA TO MITIGATE UNCONSCIOUS BIAS IN THE CREATION OF GLOBAL ENTERTAINMENT, ADVERTISING AND VIDEO GAMING. OUR DATA DRIVEN RESEARCH, EDUCATION AND ADVOCACY EMPOWER AND INSPIRE CONTENT CREATORS TO REIMAGINE THE MEDIA LANDSCAPE TO REFLECT THE WORLD WE LIVE IN. EDUCATION AND OUTREACHOUR VAST NETWORK AND STRONG WORKING RELATIONSHIPS WITH INDUSTRY LEADERS AND CREATORS ENABLE UNFETTERED ACCESS TO DIRECTLY ENGAGE WITH THE DECISION-MAKERS WITH THE CAPACITY TO SHIFT THE PARADIGM. IN ADDITION, THE PANDEMIC ALLOWED US TO INCREASE GLOBAL INDUSTRY ENGAGEMENT DRAMATICALLY, AS MANY OF OUR PARTNERS NOW HAD THE TIME AND FOCUS ON MEETING WITH US VIRTUALLY. OVER THE YEAR, WE CONDUCTED HUNDREDS OF VIRTUAL TRAINING SESSIONS, WORKSHOPS, AND PRESENTATIONS OF OUR RESEARCH INSIGHTS WITH CONTENT CREATORS AND ADVERTISERS ACROSS FILM, TELEVISION, MARKETING, GOVERNMENT, CORPORATE, NON-PROFIT, NEWS, VIDEO GAMING, AND OTHER PLATFORMS WORLDWIDE. WE ARE ALSO PUBLISHING TOOLKITS TO ACCOMPANY OUR RESEARCH. THESE TOOLKITS PROVIDE ACTION STEPS FOR CONTENT CREATORS, EDUCATORS, AND PARENTS TO HELP COMBAT SYSTEMIC STEREOTYPES AND HARMFUL BEHAVIOR. IN A RECENT SURVEY OF OUR PARTNERS IN 2021, 89% HAVE IMPROVED REPRESENTATION IN THEIR CONTENT AND PROJECTS BASED ON OUR EDUCATION AND OUTREACH ACTIVITIES. IN 2021, THE INSTITUTE HELD A TOTAL OF 19 VIRTUAL EVENTS WITH OVER 5,000 PEOPLE ATTENDING WITH RESEARCH PRESENTATIONS AND PANEL DISCUSSIONS AROUND OUR MISSION-FOCUSED AREA.
