Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3
TO UNDERSTAND THE BARRIERS THAT MINORITY STUDENTS FACE IN STEM EDUCATION, WE'VE PARTNERED WITH TWO 501(C)(3) NONPROFITS TO PROVIDE AFTER SCHOOL STEM LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES TO IDENTIFY AND EXPLORE THEIR ACADEMIC AND SOCIAL EXPERIENCES. WE PROPOSED A SUSTAINED EFFORT TO PROVIDE A SAFE ENVIRONMENT TO ENGAGE MINORITY STUDENTS TO TALK ABOUT THEIR EXPERIENCES AND LEARN STEM DISCIPLINES, CONCEPTS, AND PROCESSES. ONE OF THE PRINCIPLE VALUES OF OUR STEM PROGRAM IS TO FOCUS ON HELPING STUDENTS DEVELOP SPECIFIC ATTITUDES THAT WILL HELP THEM BE MORE SUCCESSFUL STUDENTS, CITIZENS, AND MEMBERS OF THE WORKFORCE. OUR PROGRAM DEMONSTRATES THAT GREATER DIVERSITY IN STEM EDUCATION WILL PREPARE THE NATION TO BE A GLOBAL LEADER IN AN INCREASINGLY GLOBAL ECONOMY. IN ADDITION, OUR PROPOSED PROGRAM FIND THAT LEARNING STEM DISCIPLINES ARE ALSO VALUABLE IN TRANSFORMING THE QUALITY OF DAILY LIFE FOR OUR STUDENTS, ESPECIALLY FOR THOSE IN RURAL AND LOW-INCOME COMMUNITIES. OUR PROGRAM SERVES AS A MODEL FOR OTHER STEM PROGRAMS WHO WANT TO IMPROVE THEIR RACE AND GENDER DISPARITIES.
