AS MEMBERS OF THE BLACK THEATRE COMMUNITY, WE STAND TOGETHER TO HELP PROTECT BLACKPEOPLE, BLACK TALENT AND BLACK LIVES OF ALL SHAPES AND ORIENTATIONS IN THEATRE ANDCOMMUNITIES ACROSS THE COUNTRY. OUR VOICES ARE UNITED TO EMPOWER OUR COMMUNITYTHROUGH ACTIVISM IN THE PURSUIT OF JUSTICE AND EQUALITY FOR THE BETTERMENT OF ALLHUMANITY. WE WILL NOT BE SILENT. WE WILL BE SEEN. WE WILL BE HEARD. WE ARE HERE. JOINUS.THIS CALL TO ACTION IS JUST THE BEGINNING. IT WAS THE LATEST MANIFESTATIONS OF POLICEBRUTALITY THAT GALVANIZED BLACK THEATRE UNITED INTO BEING. WITH ROOTS REACHING INTOALL 50 OF THE UNITED STATES THIS COALITION CAN HARNESS INVALUABLE POLITICAL SCOPE ANDINFLUENCE. TO ELEVATE A CAUSE OR TO OVERTURN POLICIES THAT TARGET BLACK PEOPLE IN ANYONE STATE OR COMMUNITY, THE GROUP WILL DRAW ON MEMBERS WITH LOCAL CONNECTIONS TO USETHEIR VISIBILITY AND INFLUENCE FOR GOOD IN THEATER AND ON THE NATIONAL STAGE.

A NEW DEAL FOR BROADWAY - EQUITY, DIVERSITY, INCLUSION, ACCESSIBILITY & BELONGING FOR THE THEATRICAL INDUSTRY. BLACK THEATRE UNITED WAS PROUD TO HOST THIS REMARKABLE AND HISTORIC COLLABORATION. IT IS AN IMPORTANT FIRST STEP TO REOPENING OUR INDUSTRY WITH A BRIGHT SPOTLIGHT FOCUSED ON DIVERSITY, EQUITY, INCLUSION, ACCESSIBILITY, ANDBELONGING FOR BLACK PROFESSIONALS IN THE ARTS. THOUGH ONE OF MANY INITIATIVES CREATED BY BLACK, BIPOC AND ALLIED ORGANIZATIONS SINCE THE DEATH OF GEORGE FLOYD, BTUS SUMMIT IS THE FIRST TO BRING TOGETHER ALL AREAS OF OUR INDUSTRY FROM THEATRE OWNERS, PRODUCERS, CREATIVES, CASTING AND UNIONS. WE ARE GRATEFUL TO ALL THOSE WHO HAVE WORKED DILIGENTLY WITH US FOR THE LAST SIX MONTHS AND TO ALL THOSE WHO COMMITTED TO THE PRINCIPLES OF THIS DOCUMENT BY SIGNING THEIR NAMES TO IT. LAUNCHED THE SECOND INSTALLMENT OF BTU RISE WITH A MARKETING INTERNSHIP, AIMED TO CREATE NEW PIPELINES WITHIN THE THEATER INDUSTRY FOR STUDENTS OF COLOR.LAUNCHED THE FIRST ANNUAL SUMMIT CENTERED AROUND ANTI-RACIST, ANTI-BLACK ISSUES AND EQUITABLE PRACTICES FOR THE COMMERCIAL BROADWAY THEATER COMMUNITY TO CREATE A NEWDEAL OF EQUITY, DIVERSITY, INCLUSION, ACCESSIBILITY AND BELONGING.SERVED ON THE REVIEW PANEL FOR THE BLACK SEED FOR THE AWARDING OF $10 MILLION TO THE BLACK THEATER FIELD ACROSS AMERICA. THE BLACK SEED IS A NATIONAL STRATEGIC INITIATIVE FOCUSED ON CREATING IMPACT AND THRIVABILITY FOR BLACK THEATRE INSTITUTIONS, WITH CLOSE TO 100 BLACK THEATERS ACROSS THE COUNTRY RECEIVING ONE- OR TWO-YEAR GRANTS.CREATED A LISTENING SALON WITH OTHER BLACK AND BIPOC GROUPS.RECORDED A SINGLE DISTRIBUTED BY REPUBLIC/UNIVERSAL RECORDS CALLED STAND FOR CHANGE, WHICH REFLECTS BTU'S MISSION.
