UNITE HERE ACTION FUND IS ORGANIZED TO PROMOTE SOCIAL WELFARE WITHIN THE MEANING OF SECTION 501(C)(4) OF THE INTERNAL REVENUE CODE, INCLUDING BY ASSISTING HOSPITALITY WORKERS AND THEIR FAMILIES TO ACHIEVE ECONOMIC, SOCIAL, AND RACIAL JUSTICE IN WORKPLACES AND COMMUNITIES THROUGH EDUCATION AND ADVOCACY, LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT, AND PROMOTING FULL PARTICIPATION IN CIVIC LIFE.

UNITE HERE ACTION FUND CONDUCTED A MAJOR LEADERSHIP TRAINING PROGRAMFOR HOSPITALITY WORKERS, FOCUSING ON WRITTEN AND VERBAL COMMUNICATIONSKILLS, TECHNOLOGICAL SKILLS, AND APPLICATIONS OF MATH.


UNITE HERE ACTION FUND PARTICIPATED IN EVENTS TO INFLUENCE PUBLIC POLICY; DONATED TO CHARITABLE AND OTHER ORGANIZATIONS; AND OTHERWISE PURSUED SOCIAL WELFARE ACTIVITIES AND PURPOSES.


THE ACTION FUND DID ADVOCACY WORK WITH VOTERS IN RICHMOND, VA IN SUPPORT OF A NOVEMBER 2023 CITY VOTE ON WHETHER OR NOT TO AUTHORIZE CONSTRUCTION OF A CLASS III GAMING CASINO. IF AUTHORIZED, THE EMPLOYERS HAD COMMITTED TO HIGH ROAD WAGES AND UNION PROTECTIONS FOR WORKERS IN THE CONSTRUCTION, OPERATIONS AND MAINTENANCE OF THE CASINO.


THE ACTION FUND ENGAGED IN GRASSROOTS ADVOCACY WITH NORTH CAROLINA STATE LEGISLATORS AND THEIR CONSTITUENTS DURING THE 2024 STATE BUDGET DELIBERATIONS, WITH THE GOAL OF ENSURING THAT, IF FULLY LEGALIZED, CLASS III GAMING WOULD PROVIDE FOR HIGH ROAD WAGES AND UNION PROTECTIONS FOR WORKERS ENGAGED IN THE INDUSTRY.
