THE COMMUNITY PANTRY WAS ESTABLISHED IN 1998 FOR THE PURPOSE OF PROVIDING FOOD TO THE NEEDY THROUGH VARIOUS PROGRAMS IN THE GALLUP AND GRANTS, NEW MEXICO AREAS. THE ORGANIZATION RECEIVES DONATED FOOD FROM OTHER NOT-FOR- PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS, INDIVIDUALS AND BUSINESSES. SOME OF THE FOOD IS RECEIVED THROUGH THE ORGANIZATIONS AFFILIATION WITH FEEDING AMERICA. THE FOOD IS DISTRIBUTED FREE OR FOR A NOMINAL CHARGE TO NEEDY INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES OR AGENCIES WHO DIRECTLY FEED THE NEEDY.

NOW IN EXISTENCE SINCE 1999, THE COMMUNITY PANTRY CONTINUES TO STRIVE TO MEET THE MONTHLY NEEDS OF OVER 3,000 MEMBERS OF MCKINLEY AND CIBOLA COUNTY COMMUNITIES. WITH OVER HALF OF THE POPULATION LIVING BELOW POVERTY LEVELS, THE COMMUNITY PANTRY PROVIDES NUTRITIONAL FOOD FOR OVER 2000 FAMILIES, OVER 700 CHILDREN THROUGH OUR FOOD FOR KIDS PROGRAM, OVER 934 ELDERLY, OVER 202 VETERANS, AND ABOUT 770 LBS OF FOOD TO THE HOMELESS. WE ARE WORKING TO ENHANCE OUR GARDENS SO THAT WE CAN MEET THE NUTRITIONAL NEEDS OF OUR EVER GROWING DIABETES POPULATION. THE FOOD PRODUCTION AND GARDENING ARE EXCITING VENTURES THAT ALSO INCLUDE VOLUNTEERISM AND OTHER TYPES OF COMMUNITY EXPERTS AND SUPPORT. WE UTILIZE OUR DOLLAR STRETCHER PROGRAM TO ASSIST THE ENTIRE COMMUNITY WITH THE NUTRITIONAL NEEDS, HELPING THEM MAKE THEIR FOOD PURCHASES MORE ECONOMICAL AND COST EFFECTIVE BY OFFERING DISCOUNTS THAT THE PANTRY STRATEGICALLY ORGANIZES. WE WORK THROUGH OVER 20 AGENCIES, REACHING WELL OUTSIDE THE BOUNDARIES OF OUR CITY LIMITS.
