THE CALIFORNIA NURSE-MIDWIVES FOUNDATION (CNMF) HAD THE SIGNIFICANT ACTIVITIES:(A) SUPPORTED DIVERSIFICATION OF THE NURSE-MIDWIFERY WORKFORCE BY PROVIDING SCHOLARSHIP FUNDS TO STUDENTS OF COLOR (CONTINUED IN ATTACHMENT

NURSE MIDWIFE STUDENT SUPPORT - PROVIDED 43 SCHOLARSHIPS AND EMERGENCY FUNDS TO STUDENT MIDWIVES OF COLOR FROM UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES. SCHOLARSHIPS WERE PROVIDED FOR TUITION EXPENSES AND PROFESSIONAL CONFERENCES, AND EMERGENCY FUNDS WERE PROVIDED TO ASSIST STUDENTS WITH FEES AND COSTS TO REMAIN IN SCHOOL. THERE IS AN URGENT NEED TO EDUCATE MORE MIDWIVES OF COLOR, AND THESE FUNDS SUPPORT STUDENTS IMMEDIATE NEEDS.


COMMUNITY REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH AND BIRTH - PROVIDED STARTUP FUNDING FOR KINDRED SPACE LA, A BIRTH CENTER IN LOS ANGELES OWNED BY TWO BLACK LICENSED MIDWIVES THAT SERVES A COMMUNITY OF BIPOC BIRTHING PEOPLE AND FAMILIES. KINDRED SPACE LA CLIENTS RECEIVE COMPREHENSIVE AND INCLUSIVE SERVICES, INCLUDING PRENATAL AND POSTPARTUM CARE, LABOR SUPPORT, BIRTH PREPARATION AND NEW PARENT CLASSES, AND LACTATION SUPPORT. RACIALLY CONCORDANT SERVICES HAVE BEEN SHOWN TO IMPROVE OUTCOMES AND INCREASE PATIENT SATISFACTION.


REPRODUCTIVE JUSTICE/ANTI-RACISM - PROVIDED FUNDING FOR THE BIPOC ASPIRING MIDWIVES PROGRAM, WHICH SUPPORTS INDIVIDUALS WHO IDENTIFY AS BLACK, INDIGENOUS, AND PEOPLE OF COLOR ON THEIR JOURNEY TO BECOMING MIDWIVES THROUGH SHADOWING, MENTORSHIP, AND COMMUNITY-BUILDING ACTIVITIES.
