EDUCATE LOCAL OFFICIALS ON THE IMPORTANCE OF LITERACY AND ABOUT PROGRAMS OAKLAND, CA PUT IN PLACE TO DRASTICALLY IMPROVE THE LITERACY RATES IN THEIR CITY. AS A RESULLT THE CITY OF INDIANAPOLIS'S COMMITMENT TO LITERACY THROUGH A JOINT VENTURE WITH EDUCATION UNITED TO CREATE THE CIRCLE CITY READERS PROGRAM.
DEVELOPED AND EXPANDED THE SCHOOL-BASED ORGANIZING PROGRAM IN WHICH PROFESSIONAL ORGANIZERS WORK WITH SCHOOLS THROUGHOUT THE INDIANAPOLIS PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM TO BUILD RELATIONSHIPS WITH PARENTS, HELPING THEM UNDERSTAND THE CHOICES THEY HAVE IN THEIR CHILD'S EDUCATION AND HOW THEY CAN BEST ADVOCATE FOR THEIR CHILD WITHIN THE SYSTEM, WHILE ALSO BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS WITH SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION AND TEACHERS TO WORK TOWARDS EDUCATIONAL EQUITY AND JUSTICE.
