LAKOTA AI CODE CAMP - FROM JUNE 11-30, 2023, LAKOTA HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS WERE TAUGHT DATA SCIENCE AND PROGRAMMING SKILLS THROUGH CULTURALLY RELEVANT ACTIVITIES. THE EVENT TOOK PLACE AT BLACK HILLS STATE UNIVERSITY WITH FOUR INSTRUCTORS, ONE SPEAKER, TWO ADMINISTRATORS, THREE CHAPERONES, AND ONE CULTURAL ADVISOR. THE STUDENTS EACH RECEIVED A LAPTOP AND SMARTPHONE, AND GAINED HANDS-ON EXPERIENCE WITH AUGMENTED REALITY, MACHINE LEARNING, AND MOBILE DEVELOPMENT WITH SUPPORT FROM INDIGENOUS DATA SCIENTISTS AND PROFESSORS. THE CAMP EXPOSED LAKOTA HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS TO POTENTIAL CAREERS IN HIGH-TECH FIELDS LIKE ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE AND INSPIRED A NEW GENERATION OF INDIGENOUS RESEARCHERS.


INDIGENOUS IN AI - SUPPORT INDIGENOUS SCHOLARSHIP IN ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE RESEARCH IMPACTING INDIGENOUS COMMUNITIES BY HOSTING THE INDIGENOUS IN ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE WORKSHOP AT THE NEURIPS CONFERENCE.


NATIVES IN TECH CONFERENCE - OUR ANNUAL CONFERENCE "DEVELOPING SOVEREIGNTY IN TECH" ON NOVEMBER 4TH AND 5TH, 2022, BROUGHT TOGETHER NATIVE TECHNOLOGISTS TO SHARE PROJECTS THAT EMPOWER AND SUPPORT NATIVE PEOPLES AROUND THE WORLD. THE NATIVES IN TECH CONFERENCE WAS COMPLETELY ONLINE AND FREE TO THE PUBLIC. OUR ATTENDEES INCLUDED NATIVES WORKING IN TECHNOLOGY, NON-NATIVES DEVELOPING TECHNOLOGY THAT EMPOWERS NATIVE PEOPLES, AND INDIVIDUALS AND ORGANIZATIONS SEEKING TO ENGAGE, LEARN ABOUT, AND SUPPORT NATIVE PEOPLES.
