FISCAL YEAR 2023-24 WAS A BUSY YEAR FOR THE WRIGHT-INGRAHAM INSTITUTE. THE SUMMER 2023 FIELD STUDIES (FS) PROGRAM WAS HELD IN ICELAND. THE ICELAND REPORT WILL BE POSTED ON THE INSTITUTE'S WEBSITE SHORTLY. IN FALL 2023, THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR AND STAFF BEGAN PLANNING FOR SUMMER 2024 FIELD STUDIES, WHICH WILL TAKE PLACE IN THE SAN LUIS VALLEY IN SOUTH-CENTRAL COLORADO AND NORTHERN NEW MEXICO. DR. JAKE KURZWEIL, FROM THE MOUNTAIN STUDIES INSTITUTE, WILL BE LEADING THIS FS. IT IS A JOINT PROJECT, ENTITLED "NEXUS OF LAND AND WATER: DUST ON SNOW," THAT IS STUDYING THE IMPACT OF DROUGHT ON LAND ARIDIFICATION, WATER AVAILABILITY, AND COMMUNITY HEALTH.THE GRANTS PROGRAM GAVE SIX GRANTS IN 2023-24 TO DIVERSE NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS WORKING ON CULTURAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL PROJECTS. THE RESEARCH PROGRAM, STUDYTANK, WHICH IS STILL ENGAGED WITH DROUGHT RESEARCH IN THE SOUTHWESTERN UNITED STATES COMPLETED A "VISUALIZATION TOOL," IN CONCERT WITH CERTAIN MEASURES IN BOSTON, THAT AFFORDS SCENARIO PLANNING USING WATER AND WATER RIGHTS DATA PERTINENT TO THE COLORADO RIVER BASIN THIS TOOL IS CALLED "DROUGHT INTERFACES AND IS ACCESSIBLE ON THE INSTITUTE'S WEBSITE. THE NEA GRANT THAT WE RECEIVED IN 2022-23 WILL BE APPLIED TO 2024 FIELD STUDIES PROGRAM. THE INSTITUTE BEGAN THE DEVELOPMENT OF A PHILANTHROPIC ARM IN EARLY 2023. THIS WILL INCLUDE APPLICATIONS FOR GRANTS FROM RESEARCHED FOUNDATIONS AND GRANT-GIVING INSTITUTES THAT ARE ALIGNED WITH THE INSTITUTE'S MISSION STATEMENT; CURATION OF NETWORKS FOR ANNUAL DONORS, NEW DONORS, ALUMNI, AND GRANTEES. THE INSTITUTE'S STRATEGIC PLANNING PROCESS FOR THE 2023-27 WAS APPROVED BY THE BOARD AT OUR ANNUAL BOARD MEETING IN NEW YORK CITY IN NOVEMBER 2023. IT IS POSTED ON THE INSTITUTE'S WEBSITE.
